Insurgency 2 is currently in-production, being funded on Kickstarter, and New World Interactive has released some brand new footage of the game, showing you exactly why you should throw a few dollars there direction.

First-person shooter veterans will remember a total-conversion mod for Half-Life 2, entitled Insurgency. Well, most of that core team has gotten back together and are hard at work on Insurgency 2 - a standalone follow-up to the popular mod. We've been following Insurgency 2 for a while now, and even had a chance to chat with Jeremy Blum, Creative Director at New World Interactive.

As development progresses on Insurgency 2, New World Interactive has posted a brand new video showing you why the game is going to be awesome, and hopefully showing off why you should consider donating to the game's Kickstarter.

Insurgency 2 is one of our more anticipated upcoming shooters, as we really enjoyed the original Source mod. The game, currently in development at New World Interactive, aims to bring an exciting sense of realism and balance to the FPS scene.

We had a chance to chat with New World Interactive's Jeremy Blum, a man who worked on the original Insurgency mod back in 2007. Blum also worked on the very popular Unreal Tournament mod Red Orchestra. 

In the interview, we talk about Insurgency 2 and how it differs from other first-person shooters and how developing a standalone game differs from a total conversion mod. Take a look below!

Hello and thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Before we jump into Insurgency 2, can you give a brief intro and let our readers know who you are and what you do on the game?

I’m Jeremy Blum, the project lead on Insurgency 2. I’m somewhat of a “generalist” when it comes to game development – usually “connecting the dots” whether it’s design, animation, user interfaces, environment art, programming, scripting…

Back in 2007, there was a mod that shook up the FPS scene for a few months, by the name of Insurgency. The Half-Life 2 total conversion aimed to take the realism of war - specifically the Iraq War - and plunge players into it feet first.

Now, while no game will bring the realism of war to our TV screens and computer monitors, Insurgency was one of the most popular mods of 2007. The mod even gained ModDB's Players Choice of the Year, quite an esteemed honor in the modding community. Now, the team is back with Insurgency 2. Some of the original team members have gone on to work for studios like Crytek, Gearbox and Blizzard Entertainment but a core group of founding members are back as New World Interactive to work on Insurgency 2, but they need our help...
