Every now and then, there comes a weapon so unique and unlike everything else in the game that it has to be placed in a category all its own. Such is the case in Black Ops 2 with two unique weapons, the Ballistic Knife and the Assault Shield.
Previously, special weapons appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops, with the Crossbow (now a Launcher in Black Ops 2) and Ballistic Knife. Those two are returning in Black Ops 2, alongside the brand new Assault Shield. The Crossbow has traditionally been considered a 'Special' weapon, but in Black Ops 2 it has been rebranded as a launcher. This doesn't really have any repercussions in the game, as it is still a secondary weapon and it's not as if you could ever have a launcher and the Crossbow equipped simultaneously, so there's no real loss.
The Assault Shield should be a great addition to Black Ops 2 and, if used properly, will be a great asset to have on your side. Cover is always an asset on the battlefield so the promise of a mobile cover system is very enticing to us.
These special weapons are not your average guns or explosives, so they can't be crammed in alongside some other category. Let's take a look at the special weapons in Black Ops 2!
