Battlefield 3: Aftermath DLC Revealed, Four New MP Maps

DICE has revealed some more details on the fourth DLC offering for Battlefield 3, Aftermath, which is due out roughly sometime in December of this year.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath is described as:

Set amongst the shattered districts, streets and surrounding villages of a post-earthquake Tehran Battlefield 3™: Aftermath depicts a continuing struggle for supremacy and survival amongst the devastation.

With operational capacity severely compromised the opposing forces must adapt and engage in vertical and horizontal urban combat amongst the dust and rubble with cracks and fissures in the terrain providing unexpected cover and paths to objectives. Additional support comes in the form of heavily modified troop transports and civilian vehicles specially adapted to deliver deadly force to the enemy.

The key features, as listed on the page just launched for the DLC, include:

  • Urban warfare on four new maps
  • Fight through the dust and rubble, use the earthquake damaged terrain to your tactical advantage
  • New heavily modified military and civilian vehicles – ingenuity and firepower combined
  • New game mode
  • New assignments, achievements and dog tags
The image above is a sample of some concept art for Battlefield 3: Aftermath, but stay tuned in the future for more screenshots and trailers as EA releases them into the wild.

People, didja notice the "New heavily modified military and civilian vehicles – ingenuity and firepower combined"?

These aren't going to be infantry maps, they're going to have new vehicles. I actually think this could be one of the best DLCs, but we have to wait to see how this works out.

Mechanos, really? BF3 vanilla is not even close to a vehicle centric game, how do you expect urban warfare to be vehicle centric. The description listed above could include anything from an IFV with a few anti-infantry perks to a toyota truck with an MG in the bed as we have all seen ironically played out in the movies. Heavily modified does NOT mean heavily armed, or armored, it simply means that the new vehicles will be the redneck version of military vehicles designed around urban (and therefore infantry) combat.

This is my assumption also, just a bunch of Ute's with MG's in the back.. Which could be fun though TBH :D

I think these maps are gonna be like grand, seine crossing, and tehran highway.

I hope this Armored Kill DLC with all the vehicles wont take away the purpose of having alot of vehicles for the other DLCs.

End game though. It seems to have motorcycles and a new jet so who knows what to expect!

I wish the DLCs would add new vehicles to the old maps.

Like when your choosing a server you could select (BF3) Caspian border or (AK) Caspian border.

(BF3) version would not have tank destroyers and quad bikes, it would have the original vehicles

(AK) version would have tank destroyers and quad bikes.

Thats how it used to work. We used to get patches bigger than these DLC's. Well ok maybe not this big, but we would get quite a few of them and they were at ZERO cost to us. Then we could the explantions and pretty much double our gaming experience. Unfortunately in the modern world of DLCs, and sub-par games, sharing isnt allowed as it would be a disincentive from purchasing the DLC.

Well, I got Premium so I am in for the whole sheepleang, i am just hoping the next DLC (Armoured Kill) isn't a disappointment, don't imagine it will be, I'll be slaughtered like I am in all the other Maps (getting used to wearing glasses sux) . all the dust/debris in Close Encounters makes it hard to focus, actual earthquakes/shaking while I was playing would merely piss me off more.

What happened to J, I mean New York or the gay Bay Maps?

Just imagine open, as in accessible tall (20 to 30 story) buildings and the streets littered with yellow cabs to run over and destroy with Tanks and RPG's. (yes, I think an RPG is a rocket propelled grenade)  or blowing the cables off the Golden Gate bridge to watch it drop piece by piece with enemies in pink tights into the shark infested waters below.

Instead of competing so obviously with COD why not with ARMA and have some underwater Battlefield?

Cracks and fissures providing unexpected cover and paths to objectives - so yeah, infantry focused.

I'm going to go out on a limb and expect new weapons. Just out of curiosity, what is that rifle that the guy in the foreground is holding?

  • #7 raidz3ro

We need more large, Battlefield maps :)  Battlefield is about large scale battles, helicopters, armor, and large areas that offer the chance to flank from unpredictable locations.  We bought the bullet and pre ordered all the dlc like the good sheeple we are, hopefully there will be no disappointment!

I'm just here to laugh at all the complaints about something we still know virtually nothing about.

We know enough Charles. We know that these maps will be pretty much entirely infantry centered with a few vehicles to support here and there. We know that the maps will revolve around urban conflict so tight quarters, and narrow pathways are guaranteed, and I will just go out on a limb and say that flanking will be severely limited. We know that tight CF's are a favorite amongst BF3s new found fan base and these maps are looking to be nothing more than the same old stuff hashed out with a few new skins for effect.

Now if the maps THEMSELVES shook, split, and crumbled then this would be another story altogether.

So no new weapons man, I bet its going to be like close quarters all over agian
