Borderlands 2 Weapons Maker Spotlight: Jakobs

Montgomery Jakobs founded his company on traditional, die-hard principles. One single bullet to destroy your target. Literally destroyed. Arms over there, legs over here. Skull reduced to dust and shrapnel.

Destroyed. Kaput. Good old-fashioned dead.

Jakobs doesn't fuss overmuch with things like accuracy, recoil compensation or elemental damage. These are firearms of a different breed. Sporting the trademark wood design, Jakobs weapons are some of the baddest in Pandora.

Jakobs has a multitude of weapons available in Borderlands 2, but let's take a look at some of the core varieties.

Shotguns

There's bad, there's bad and then there's Jakobs shotguns. Perhaps the best part about Jakobs shotguns is not the sheer power, but rather the breech-loading style.

This enables you to fire the shotgun as fast as you can pull the trigger.

This rapid fire capability, however, comes with a downside. Very small ammo capacity. We're talking 2 to 6 rounds per reload on average. So, expect to be reloading often and without any elemental damage to speak of, make these shots count.

Assault Rifles

Jakobs assault rifles, like nearly every other weapon from this manufacturer, fires as fast or as slow as you can pull the trigger. You are limited only by your own abilities.

Some Jakobs rifles, however, come equipped to fire more than one round per trigger pull so that's a nice bonus. Jakobs assault rifles don't pack the same punch that their shotguns do, but they have much larger ammunition capacity and will be accurate at greater distances.

Jakobs ARs are some of the best all-around weapons that Borderlands 2 has to offer.

Pistols

Revolvers from Jakobs personify the high-impact credo that Jakobs is so proud of.

Their standard pistols might leave a little to be desired, however, with no elemental damage to speak of and mid-range damage and accuracy.

Like with most of their weapons, Jakobs abandons modern technology in favor of classic principles. Both in design and functionality, Jakobs pistols look great and are sturdy as well. Interestingly, Jakobs trademark wood design may as well really be a trademark since they are the only manufacturer in Pandora to design weapons like that.

If you're going Jakobs, we must insist that you go for a revolver where the damage is pretty ridiculous.

Sniper Rifles

If you've played first-person shooters in the past that featured solid bolt-action sniper rifles, you'll be right at home with Jakobs' arsenal of long-range rifles.

While most Jakobs weapons can fire as fast as you pull the trigger, Jakobs sniper rifles mainly use bolt-action technology. It might be a bit outdated, but you'd be hard pressed to find a more reliable and trustworthy firing mechanism.

The downside of bolt-action rifles is the lag between shots fired while your player resets the bolt. It's a small price to pay, however, for very high damage, bullet speed and accuracy. Simply put, Jakobs rifles are some of the all-around best.

We're a big fan of Jakobs and can't wait to try out all of their weapons in Borderlands 2 - well, as many of them as we can lay our hands on at any rate.

You've seen many of the weapons manufacturers in Borderlands 2 by now, and we're curioous; which is your favorite weapons manufacturer? Let us know in the comments or shoot us a message on Twitter or Facebook.

I love Jakobs guns, so stylish, also I love big numbers so I appreciate more damage.

same, but their handguns are what i really liked the best. Fast firing and very powerful, this is what I like in close quarters. Other guns are alright but not as practical for me. Main problem seems to be that they have poor accuracy regen&impulses so after firing the first shot, the follow up shots are difficult in medium to long range.
Their shotguns are decent if you are looking for damage and extra projectiles but the shot cost and low mag capacity can leave you in the open
