Activision has announced a partnership with Tencent Holdings to bring Call of Duty Online to Chinese gamers. The game has been in development for two years under the guidance of Activision and Tencent.
Call of Duty Online takes the classic Call of Duty gameplay, fast and addicting, and caters it to the Chinese gaming community. With Tencent's history in Chinese gaming, it makes a lot of sense for Activision to seek their expertise. CEO Bobby Kotick agrees, saying:
We look forward to laying the foundation for a long-standing relationship with Tencent and to launching a new and unique experience for fans.
We don't know too much about the game just yet, but some of the features that we do know about include...
- Full customization, with purchasable weapons, items, equipment and perks geared towards the Chinese market.
- Multiple game modes and maps.
- A wholly original story based on the Modern Warfare franchise, told through Special Operations missions.
- "The ability to personalize their weapons, characters and equipment like never before in a Call of Duty game"
