DayZ Reaches 500,000 Players, 22K Concurrent

DayZ is quickly taking the gaming industry by storm, as developer Dean 'Rocket' Hall attested to on Twitter when he announced that the game had officially reached 500,000 users!

The ARMA II mod takes Bohemia Interactive's military simulator and uses it as a base to plunge players into a world ravaged by zombies and riddled with lawless bandits. If you haven't played it yet, DayZ is unforgiving, impossibly challenging and immensely enjoyable. The mod singlehandedly turned Bohemia Interactive's 3 year old shooter ARMA II into a Steam Top Seller, and the momentum hasn't stopped.

DayZ currently sees up to 22,000 concurrent players - folks playing the game at the same time - during peak hours and 10,000 in off-peak times. These numbers are impressive in the best of times, but when you take into account that DayZ was originally built for 100 concurrent players and just 2 servers, it's pretty staggering.

If you're looking to get into DayZ, we highly recommend visiting the DayZ Wiki to help get you in the right direction. The game can be a challenge to get into if you don't have help, so give the Wiki a look and good luck! Current life expectations in DayZ is 35 minutes. So, seriously...good luck.
