District 187 is a free to play shooter from CJ Games that we've sunk more than a few hours into over the past few months. The game takes place in an urban environment, featuring battles between ruthless gangs and S.W.A.T. team members, which is a huge breath of fresh air to the genre, ditching the modern military themes we've become so familiar with.
The Winter of Wars content includes:
- Three new maps: Hope Clinic, Underground and Chem Lab.
- Ten new weapons, including three new melee weapons and four new primaries, not the least of which is the Azure PDW K101 - District 187's first permanent weapon.
- New cosmetic items, including costumes and items.
- Achievements.
This brings District 187 up to 30 weapons, 9 game modes, over a dozen gun mods and 18 maps to battle on. The game is completely free to play, with optional microtransactions for weapons, mods and cosmetic items. We'll be honest, sometimes free to play games put us off but if they are done right and avoid the 'pay to win' curse that plagues so many games, we're on board.
District 187 gets it right.
