  • Chatting About Hawken With Meteor Entertainment at PAX

    Straight from the show floor at PAX East in Boston, we're bringing you an exclusive interview with Meteor Entertainment's Paul Loynd, who is currently working on Hawken.

    If you haven't played it, Hawken is an awesome mech shooter where players take control of massive and powerful mechs to do battle. These mechs are a breath of fresh air for fans of Call of Duty, Battlefield or Counter-Strike. The mechanics are slower than traditional shooters but Hawken isn't trying to be a tradional shooter. The weapons and movement make for a more tactical multiplayer experience.

    Plus, if we're honest, these mechs are incredibly fun to blow stuff up with.

  • Hawken Looks Amazing With Nvidia PhysX

    Nvidia has released a brand new trailer, in partnership with Meteor Games, showing off the effects of Nvidia's in-house PhysX technology in the free to play mech shooter Hawken.

    To start with, Hawken has a lot going for it even without factoring PhysX into the fold. Unreal Engine 3 powers the game as players engage in epic battles from the cockpits of their mechs, wielding multiple weapons on totally customizable loadouts. To look at it, Hawken doesn't appear to be a F2P game at first glance and that has a lot to do with the powerful tech that the game is built upon. Part of that tech is the aforementioned PhysX technology, available exclusively from Nvidia. If you're not familiar with it, PhysX basically takes games to the next level in what they can do with physics in games that are running on Nvidia GPU's.

    Games like Borderlands 2 and Hawken make use of PhysX on PC to step their games up and deliver an unprecedented visual experience. Check out the trailer above for an example of what we're talking about and visit http://www.geforce.com/ for more information on PhysX itself.

  • Meteor Entertainment Launches Final Closed Beta Phase for Hawken

    Today marks the start of the last iteration of closed beta for Meteor Entertainment's mech shooter, Hawken, before the game will make the leap into open beta next month.

    We've been in closed beta for a while and we must say that Hawken is a gorgeous experience. The mechanics are incredibly solid and we don't expect that much will need tweaking in that department before the game goes into open beta. If you're not familiar with the genre, mech shooters are basically third-person shooters but instead of playing as infantry, every player takes control of a massive, mechanized battle suit. Players are able to customize their mech much in the way that they would customize a soldier kit in Battlefield or Call of Duty.

    Meteor has also launched the Vanguard Initiative which will let you pay for the free to play game. In exchange for your money, you will get varying amounts of in-game currency (depending on the bundle you pick up) as well as cosmetic items and XP/Credit boosts.     If you've already played Hawken in previous beta test phases, make sure that you uninstall previous Hawken clients and reinstall the new game client from the link you should have received via email this morning.

  • E3 Rewind, Hands on With Meteor Entertainment's Hawken

    Earlier this year, at E3 2012 in Los Angeles, we had a chance to go hands-on with Meteor Entertainment's upcoming mech shooter Hawken.

    With the hustle and bustle of E3, this footage ended up getting lost by the wayside, so here we are revisiting the game. Hawken, for those who haven't followed the title over the last year or so, is a mech shooter. In Hawken, players will face off in multiplayer action not as ground troops but rather piloting lethal mechs to do battle. The game won a handful of awards at E3 for Best Multiplayer, Best PC Exclusive and more. We had a chance to check it out in person, so be sure to check out that footage embedded above.
