U4ia Games Announces Offensive Combat, Console Quality Browser-Based FPS

U4ia Games has officially announced their previously unannounced project - Offensive Combat, a console quality shooter that we'll be playing in the browser.

U4ia (pronounced 'euphoria') was founded by Chris Archer and Dusty Welch, previously of Activision and Call of Duty fame, so right off the bat, the game has our attention. Add a Hawaiian shirt-wearing, octopus-lizard hybrid, wielding a rubber chicken, and we're sold.

"Free-to-play is the next disruptive, permanent shift in gaming," Said U4iA CEO Dusty Welch. "Consumers are moving away from the traditional console retail model and demanding AAA-quality games accessible on all their devices with no upfront costs. U4iA plans to satisfy those gamers with unmatched, competitive, core games like Offensive Combat, playable through your browser at a level of quality previously not thought possible, all running on our breakthrough E-Sport level server architecture. Since the game is launched right in their browser, players will be able to fire it up, connect with their friends, and play for free - with no need for additional hardware or software purchases."

The goal at U4ia seems to be to provide the most accessible shooter possible, while not sacrificing quality and content. As co-founder Chris Archer says, "We are making the blockbuster game you'll have to have, but it's already in your browser, it's free, and your friends are already playing. Just log on and click play."

Seems pretty convenient.

One thing is for sure, we can't wait to get some hands on with Offensive Combat when the game enters closed beta (scheduled to get underway in the near future).
