Sam Fisher Gets a New Voice Actor For Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Yesterday at E3, Ubisoft unveiled Splinter Cell: Blacklist, a brand new entry into Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell franchise. The story brings new life to protagonist Sam Fisher in more ways than one.

To start with, Fisher has a whole new arsenal of weapons, gadgets and abilities that make him even more lethal a spy. He is heading up the Fourth Echelon, assigned by the President of the United States to take down a terrorist organization in the Middle East. Fisher is not just getting new moves and equipment, however, but a brand new voice actor as well.

Michael Ironsides has long been the voice of Sam Fisher, the voice of Splinter Cell, but as Ubisoft updates their motion-capture technology, they are doing more than just voice acting. Actors are now going to be using full capture technology, meaning that their voices and body motion will be captured together.

As Mr. Ironside isn't exactly in peak physical form anymore, this would have meant using a three total actors for Sam Fisher, for Motion Capture, Voice Acting and Stunt Capture.

Obviously, that doesn't make any sense so Ubisoft opted to go for Eric Johnson as the new Sam Fisher. Johnson looks perfect for the role and while we'll miss Ironsides as Sam Fisher, we're looking forward to seeing what kind of personality Johnson has in store for the iconic character.
