• Max Payne 3 Available for $17.99 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

    Just a quite note for all of you who haven't had a chance to pick up Max Payne 3 yet. The game is available on Best Buy for a fraction of the retail price, going for just $17.99. The deal expires after today, so don't wait too long!

    $17.99 is more than a steal for Max Payne 3, a game that we really enjoyed. The game follows the story of Max Payne, naturally, as he moves to Brazil hoping to escape his troubled past. He comes into the employ of Rodrigo Branco, but does not find the peace of mind he had hoped for. All he finds, unfortunately, is a convoluted scheme to kidnap Rodrigo's wife. The story is as dark and brooding as you'd expect from a Max Payne game, and the multiplayer is just as enjoyable.

    The deal is available through Dealzon and is for the standard edition of Max Payne 3. While there has been a wealth of DLC released for the game, none of that content is available in this deal. You can, however, pick it up with all of that money you're saving by not spending $59.99 on the game brand new.

  • Bungie Officially Revealing 'Destiny' on February 17th

    Big news out of the Bungie Studios camp as the team revealed that they will be unveiling their next time, known only as Destiny, on February 17th!

    We know very little about the game, but based on details from a leak last year, the story in Destiny goes like this:

    Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City.

    We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.

    This information came from a leak and is several months old so be aware that anything could have changed in the last few months and, as with any leak, we can't vouch for the accuracy of the information to begin with. One thing we know for sure, however, is that Destiny is going to be revealed on February 17th and we'll be here when it does.

  • Black Ops 2: Revolution Arrives on PC/PS3 February 28th

    Hot off the presses, Treyarch has announced that Black Ops 2: Revolution will arrive on PC and PlayStation 3 on February 28th! This brings four brand new maps, one brand new weapon and a zombies map to both platforms.

    The content will likely be priced at $14.99, and includes:

    Four multiplayer maps:

    • Mirage
    • Hydro
    • Grind
    • Downhill

    One Zombies map:

    • Die Rise

    Additionally, this is the first DLC offering in a Call of Duty game to include a DLC-exclusive weapon. The Peacekeeper is a great sub-machine gun with assault rifle range. Treyarch has balanced it well and we've really enjoyed using it over the past couple weeks.

    Black Ops 2: Revolution will be available on Steam and the PlayStation Store on February, 28th!

  • EA: Medal of Honor Lacked Leadership to Succeed

    Last month, EA put Medal of Honor on indefinite hiatus as they shift their attention entirely to Battlefield. We originally believed that the move was simply due to the poor performance of both 2010's Medal of Honor reboot and 2012's Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Incidentally, we liked both games but what do we know?

    EA Chief Creative Director Rich Hilleman spoke last week to Rock, Paper, Shotgun and revealed that leadership and personnel issues may have been key contributors to their decision, saying:

    We don’t think its a genre problem. It’s an execution problem. We don’t think Medal of Honor’s performance speaks to any particular bias in that space against modern settings or World War II or any of that. It’s much more that we had some things we should’ve done better.

    What we think right now is that, for the next couple years, we can just have one great thing in that space. So we’re choosing for it to be Battlefield.

    I think a key part of this is having the right amount of high-quality production talent. And we didn’t have the quality of leadership we needed to make [Medal of Honor] great. We just have to get the leadership aligned. We’re blessed to have more titles than we can do well today. That’s a good problem, frankly. In the long term, we have to make sure we don’t kill those products by trying to do them when we can’t do them well.

    Ultimately, Hilleman said, Medal of Honor is taking a break but it will be back. EA will bide their time, watching the first-person shooter market (and Battlefield performance) and when the time is right, they will bring Medal of Honor out of the closet to have another crack at it.

    For what it's worth, Hilleman did say that he believes it will be sooner than later so all of you die-hard Medal of Honor fans can find some solace in that. Stay tuned to FPS General, we'll be covering all of the news surrounding the next Medal of Honor game, whenever it comes down the road.

  • Dead Space 3 Dominates UK Launch Week Charts

    Dead Space 3 released last week and, while we've personally been enjoying it, the game has soared straight to the top of the charts in the United Kingdom, surpassing the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, FIFA 13 and Far Cry 3 while unseating the previous #1 game Ni no Kuni.

    As you're undoubtedly familiar, Dead Space 3 follows the story of Isaac Clarke as he battles the Necromorphs on a brand new planet, Tau Volantis. Joining him on the icy tundra of a planet is John Carver, a soldier with a very troubling past that plagues him throughout the game. When a second player joins in for some co-op action, they play as Carver.

  • DICE Releases Brand New Battlefield 3: End Game Screenshots

    The life cycle for Battlefield 3 downloadable content is nearing its end with Battlefield 3: End Game, but it's not over yet. We're looking forward to getting some hands-on time with the final expansion pack and DICE has made the way a little bit harder with some brand new screenshots.

    Before we delve into those, here is what End Game offers:

    - Fight all year round in four vast and breath-taking maps including Kiasar Railroad and Operation Riverside. Each location is inspired by one of the four seasons, providing distinct terrain and visuals, all designed for high speed combat

    - Jump in the seat of three new vehicles including the fast and agile dirt bike, and two new AA vehicles

    - Return of the classic Capture the Flag and Air Superiority game modes

    - In the skies, the new dropship introduces the abilty to turn the tide with rapid deployment air drops of troop transports

    - 5 new Assignments

    - 16 new dog tags

    - 5 new Achievements/Trophies

  • id Software Releasing RAGE Tool Kit Today

    While the game might be over two years old, id Software isn't done with RAGE just yet. After releasing The Scorchers DLC at the tail end of 2012, the studio has announced that they will be releasing a full suite of mod tools for the game later today.

    The RAGE Tool Kit will include the very same world building tool that id Software used, called idStudio as well as game maps and assets to help you on your way. RAGE was the first idTech 5 game so this is the first change that the modding community has had to really get under the hood and see what the software is capable of from a modding perspective. The download is pretty decent at 35+GB so make sure you set aside a nice chunk of time to get the Tool Kit on your computer.

    idStudio 5 sounds nothing short of amazing if the official description is anything to go off of:

    idStudio is your main world building tool -- it includes a multitude of components to get your new RAGE mod up and running. Use it to get an overview of the editing environment, or to learn about the various browsers and windows you will use while creating your masterpiece. You can also check out some of the toolbars you will encounter, or view the master list of key commands.

    Once you are familiar with idStudio and its features, take a look at the tutorials for a few step-by-step lessons on building environments.

  • Borderlands 2 Takes Action Game of the Year at 16th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards

    Last night, the Interactive Academy of Arts & Sciences held the 16th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards from Las Vegas, NV, giving out awards to some of the greatest video games and studios from 2012. So many great games were released in 2012, but only the best can win. Without further ado, let's dive into the winners!

    Thatgamecompany's indie title Journey absolutely dominated the Awards, taking home 8 total honors including the much-coveted Game of the Year. The world of shooters wasn't totally left out, however, with other big winners include Borderlands 2 for Action Game of the Year, Halo 4 for Outstanding Connectivity and Gameplay Engineering and Mass Effect 3 for RPG of the Year!

  • Giveaway: Try Out District 187's New Content For Free

    FPS General has teamed up with District 187 developer CJ Games Global to give away a ton of in-game goodies for the free to play urban first-person shooter! The game is completely free to play and features dozens of weapons, maps, game modes and items to experience. As with any free to play game, District 187 features optional micro-transactions for weapons, weapon mods or other cosmetic items.

    These items are in no way required to play the game, nor do they give you an advantage in the game, but they're totally badass and you should definitely check them out.

    Case in point, take a look at the Azure PDW which was just released in District 187's Winters of War update. The Azure is District 187's first permanent weapon (as opposed to the normal rental structure seen in other free to play titles) and is a blast to use.

  • Is Trion Worlds' MMOFPS Defiance Coming to Steam?


    The team at DefianceForum.com been nothing short of vocal in their support for getting Defiance on Steam and, while Trion Worlds has certainly not said the game won't be coming to Steam, they also haven't confirmed it yet. Well, it looks like we might have that confirmation, as the game has appeared in the Steam database.

    If you're unfamiliar with the Steam database, here's a quick debriefing. The database can be browsed at http://steamdb.info/, where they compile a mass amount of information on games that are listed internally to appear on Steam. If we're lucky, occasionally we get confirmation on games that haven't even been announced yet.

    In this case, Defiance has been announced but not confirmed for Steam. At this time, the only way we know that players will be able to play is through the independent Trion Worlds launcher. However, it looks like that is about to change, according to Steamdb.info, the game may be coming to Steam after all.

    The above image (click to enlarge) was posted on SteamDB.info in regards to Defiance: Test App 224600 is clearly attributed to 'Defiance' and is tied to Trion Worlds. This, of course, isn't surefire proof that the game is coming to Steam but it definitely suggests that this will be the case!
