Bungie's Community Focus series continues with a look at Destiny Tracker. Destiny Tracker is a community website, that is focused on statistics and related content for Destiny. As with all community focus posts, Bungie share with us an interview with the staff members involved:
Who are you? How shall you be known? What’s your favorite class of Guardian? Answer these questions or you will be fired upon!DTR: We are DestinyTracker! I am TheBigL and I’m representing DTR.We are a group of gamers and Bungie fans who have been lucky enough to create two great video game communities based on stats and raw data. Years ago, Xorth, the site creator, decided to create a Halo 3 stats site and forum and things have snowballed from there. None of this could have been done without a dedicated staff of volunteers and their favorite Guardians:
Xorth - Site Creator and Coder - HunterEdge - Administrator and Content Creator - HunterTheBigL - Community Relations - TitanTyyger - Moderator and Content Creator - WarlockDarkened Night - Player Investment and Events - HunterSgt Frankieboy - Creator of DestinyTracker Database - HunterRippinheads - Moderator and Rumble Extraordinaire - All of them!Sengir79 - Moderator and Content Creator - WarlockJennie - Chat and Forum Moderator - Hunter
That’s a handsome lookin’ Fireteam (and a half). Tell us more about Destiny Tracker. What do you track there?DTR: We track everything, and then we rank it. We grab all the stats from Bungie (thanks, by the way!), and show it in our own unique way. We have a ton of different leaderboards for all facets of the game. If you’re a PvP player, a speedrunner, or like to stick to Story and Strike missions, we have a leaderboard for you. Each leaderboard has a bunch of different filters, including class and region. That said, we do more than track stats. We have a “Looking for Group” page that’s a huge hit, as well as ashader previewer for all the Guardians out there that would like to try on a shader before dropping the glimmer. Our DestinyTracker Database is a HUGE resource for anyone wondering what gun they just got stomped with in PvP, or what the vendors are currently selling and when their stock refreshes.
We do some of that on Bungie.net. What motivated you to start your own site?DTR: After having great success tracking stats in the Halo series dating back to Halo 3, we felt that Destiny was a great opportunity to delve into a new world of statistics. Not only do we have PvP stats, with Destiny there is a whole new beast to tackle: PvE stats! This has also given us the opportunity to build a great community of players, many of whom are experts in different facets of Destiny (i.e. PvP, PvE, Raids, Strikes). We can help answer player questions and get them back in the game. Overall, the great sense of community and awesome friends made is what keeps us coming back for more.
How else does a visit to DestinyTracker.com enhance a player’s experience?DTR: DestinyTracker offers another level of interaction for players who are deeply invested in Destiny. Because we focus mainly on statistics, we can devote our time to creating and supporting new and unique features for players. This allows members to interact with a community of like-minded players and help build a better experience for everyone. We have our own ranking system which includes ranks 1-50 (similar to Halo 2 ranks) for every gametype. The ability to determine which class you are better with by looking at stats and seeing your strengths and weakness is awesome. We also like to showcase the best clips from our community on our YouTube channel. Here is our latest Destiny Top 5! (See Video Above)
Yep. That highlight reel was utterly terrifying. Of all the services you provide, which ones are the most popular among your community?DTR: We have three main features that seem to draw the most praise: our Looking for Group pages, individual player stats pages, and theshader previewer. Need a few more people to run Vault of Glass on PS4? No problem. We concurrently have over 500 people looking for players and groups. The individual stats pages are the mainstay of DestinyTracker. What’s better than seeing all of your stats for PvP and PvE alike, with in depth breakdowns, on one page? And last but not least, the shader previewer is an awesome tool that allows you to preview ANY shader in the game, on your specific player, and gives you a 3D preview of him or her.
What’s your favorite way to play Destiny?DTR: Some of our staff members are hardcore PvP players, such as Rippinheads who is currently ranked number 8 in Rumble across all platforms. PvP is always fresh with so many weapons and game modes. We really can’t wait for new weapons, armor sets, and maps to come out.Others are avid PvE players who strive to learn the ins and outs of every Strike, Raid and Story mission in the game. For many, the Raid was the most challenging and satisfying part of the game and possibly one of the best boss battles ever played.
It’s nice to hear that you’re having fun. As you’re hinting, there are more challenges in store for you. Given that we’re not done supporting Destiny, how can we make the game better for you and players like you?DTR: On the PvE side of things, more content, for sure. Many of us, and the players that join our site, are avid players and we simply can’t wait for the first expansion pack to drop. For the PvP side, we just ask that you continue to monitor the hard data related to weapon and class balances. That is crucial to maintaining a stable and endlessly fun PvP environment.
We have a dedicated team doing that right this minute! Proceed…DTR: There are a few small things in PvP such as Join in Progress (JIP) that could be improved upon. Also, custom games would be a HUGE plus for gamers and the gaming community as a whole. The ability to practice maps with a team, create call outs, and even hold tournaments and events is nothing but beneficial for the game and the community. All in all, we just ask that you continue to do what you are doing in addressing the issues and coming up with quick fixes. We also ask that you continue to support gaming communities, like ourselves, as it can be a mutually beneficial and rewarding relationship. That said, if you could send a few Exotic engrams our way, that would be lovely.
We want to hear from you!
