  • Warface Going Offline Tomorrow, Will Be Back Soon

    • By NateRios 4/9/2013 10:16:29 PM
    • Category IconWarface
    • 0

Crytek has announced that their free to play shooter Warface, currently available in closed beta, will be going offline for an 'extended period of server down time' tomorrow. The game will be up in the near future, but the announcement left things pretty open ended.

Warface has impressed us time and time again with enjoyable gameplay, a real-time weapons customization system that we adore and AAA-quality graphics. All for literally nothing. The in-game purchases are going to be optional and are not designed to give you a definitive edge on the competition, but rather let you tailor the gameplay to your preferences.

As for the server downtime, Crytek is going to be implementing some major changes to the game based on current beta feedback. The email was unclear as to whether it was coming back online as a full release or some form of beta. We'll keep an eye out and be sure to update when we have more info!

If you're looking to get some last minute Warface matches in, go ahead and do it tonight because servers are going offline on April 10th at 5:00PM Pacific Time.

  • Warface Gets a GDC Trailer, Still Looks Awesome

    • By NateRios 3/28/2013 6:42:32 PM

Warface is a game that we have been enjoying for a while now in beta and we've absolutely been loving it. While movement is a bit slow at times and the sliding mechanic is absurd, we can't wait until the general public can get their hands on the game later this year.

To that end, we were excited when Crytek released a brand new trailer for the game at GDC this year in San Francisco, CA. Available at the bottom of this post, the latest trailer is entitled 'Pick a Side' and aims to showcase the warring factions in Warface. On one side, you have the military conglomerate of Blackwood. This is the ruling faction in Warface, that beats the fight out of any opposition that dares to oppose them.

On the other side of the war, you have the eponymous Warface faction. In the co-op missions, you fight as a member of Warface, a resistance movement with the guns and ability to challenge Blackwood.

Check out the trailer after the break, it's definitely a good one.

Late last month, FPS General had the pleasure of attending a press event for Warface, getting a sneak peek at what Crytek and Trion Worlds have up their sleeves for this exciting game.

While we were there, we were able to grab Crytek CEO and Founder Cevat Yerli for an interview in which we discussed Warface the game and Crytek's revolutionary new social media platform Gface, which is launching alongside Warface this year. We've had the opportunity to spend some time with both of these new launches at the event last month and in the ongoing closed beta for Warface and we think you guys have a hell of a lot to look forward to. We can't wait to show you more in the coming weeks!

  • Dissecting the Real-Time Weapons of Crytek's Warface

    • By NateRios 3/7/2013 8:16:51 PM
    • Category IconWarface
    • 0

Warface is a game that pretty much takes the expectations of a free to play shooter and throws them out the window. This is Crytek and if you know anything about Crytek, it's that they are not going to half ass the quality of a game just because it is going into the free to play market.

In the latest trailer for the game, Crytek and Trion Worlds are showing off the depth of customization that the game offers. Whether it's under-mounted grenade launchers, long-range zoom scopes or muzzle attachments, Warface has a wealth of options at your fingertips as this trailer can attest to. Now customization is one thing, most first-person shooters offer weapon customization but Warface takes it to the next level with real-time weapon customization.

What this means is that you can make changes to your loadout right in the middle of the match, allowing you to adapt to your surroundings. Find yourself with an amazing long-distance view? Throw on a long-range scope and start picking off enemies in the distance. This intuitive system completely changes the way that you think about building your loadouts and competiting online.

Check out the trailer after the break and make sure to stay tuned to FPS General as we've got some awesome stuff planned as we continue to cover Warface!

Check out the final installment of The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3, entitled 'End of Days'. The video series, created by Crytek in conjunction with director Albert Hughes, has been showing different areas and aspects of Crysis 3 in advance of its release later this month.

The End of Days episode is hands-down the best one yet, ending the series on a high note. Prophet narrates the video, talking about the people who believe that their generation will be the ones to witness the end of the world as we know it. In Crysis 3, however, it's up to Prophet to make sure that his generation is not the one to bear witness to the End of Days. He'll be using every tool at his disposal, from the Nanosuit to the deadly Predator Bow.

Check out the video above and remember, Crysis 3 is out on February 19th on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC!

Crytek has debuted a great new trailer for Crysis 3, featuring the sounds of UK rock legends Muse. Crytek didn't really make clear if this was the launch trailer or just something awesome that they put together using the Muse track, but either way it's a great watch for anyone looking forward to Crysis 3. We'd put our money on an 'official launch trailer' being released next week, in advance of the game's February 19th release date in North America.

Check out the trailer above as Prophet deals death using a wealth of brand new weapons and the familiar badassery of the Nanosuit. The song is Liquid State and can be found on Muse's latest record 2nd Law. Crysis 3 will be in stores on February 19th on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

  • Be 'The Perfect Weapon' in Episode 5 of Crysis 3's Seven Wonders Series

Crytek has released the fifth episode in the Seven Wonders of Crysis 3 video series, focusing this time on the Nanosuit that Prophet is armed with. We've come to love the Nanosuit in the last two Crysis games, and it is something that really sets this franchise apart from other first-person shooters.

In the latest video, directed by Albert Hughes in collaboration with Crytek, we learn more about the Nanosuit, which is being billed as 'The Perfect Weapon'. The trailer does a great job of showing off the modules that players can use, including Maximum Armor, the lethal Air Stomp, high jumps, vicious Nanosuit-powered melee attacks and more. The Cloaking ability isn't showcased, but we can only assume that's because it has been displayed in many of the previously released trailers and gameplay videos.

Check out the Episode 5 of the Seven Wonders of Crysis 3 below. Crysis 3 arrives on February 19th, 2013 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

  • Crysis 3 Multiplayer Beta Starts Next Week, Gameplay Trailer Released

    • By NateRios 1/23/2013 6:20:34 PM

    • 1

Crytek has announced that they will be running a multiplayer beta for Crysis 3, beginning early next week. Contrary to the ongoing Dead Space 3 beta, Crysis 3's testing phase will be on all of the platforms that the game will be launching on next month; Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

“With Crysis 3 we are delivering the deepest, most robust Crysis multiplayer experience yet,” said Crytek CEO, Cevat Yerli. “We have listened closely to our fans and have evolved the multiplayer in Crysis 3 by adding a host of new gameplay features including the unique Hunter mode, deadly new weapons like the Predator bow, deeper loadout and unlock options, enhanced upgrade systems and more social features like the New York Feed.

"Top it all off with the ultimate weapon in the Nanosuit and you have a multiplayer experience that is unlike anything else out there.”

Crysis 3's multiplayer beta will feature 2 of the 8 available multiplayer modes in the game, including Crash Site and the brand new Hunter game mode. Players who enjoyed Crysis 2 will remember Crash Site from that game, which tasked players to capture and control rotating points on the map. That game mode returns in Crysis 3 and will be playable in the upcoming beta.

Hunter is something brand new to the Crysis franchise, but not to shooters as a whole. This is Crytek's take on Infected, or Michael Myers as it's sometimes referred to. Two players start out as cloaked Hunters. They are up against 10 CELL troopers, who must work together to stay alive until the round ends. The catch, of course, is that whenever a Hunter kills a CELL soldier, the soldier respawns as a Hunter themselves, swelling the ranks of the Hunters with each fresh kill. Hunters are armed only with enhanced Nanosuits and Predator bows.

Both of these game modes are playable on two of Crysis 3's twelve multiplayer maps; Airport and Museum.

The beta starts on January 29th and will run through February 12th. Crysis 3 ships on February 19th on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Check out a brand new gameplay trailer below, showing off the might that awaits you in the Nanosuit.

  • Episode 4 of The Seven Wonders of Crysis 3 Released

    • 0

Crytek has released the fourth episode of the Seven Wonders of Crysis 3, entitled 'Typhoon'.

This episode focuses on one of the most advanced weapons in the world, known as the Typhoon. This beast is capable of firing 500 rounds per second. To look at that in perspective, the AK-47 - one of the most popular and versatile weapons on the market, fires at a rate of roughly 600 rounds per minute. That breaks down to 10 rounds per second, in comparison to Crysis 3's Typhoon which puts out 500 rounds in the same amount of time.

    Staggering.

The Typhoon definitely looks intense and the recoil seems pretty manageable considering how much firepower you're laying down in such a short amount of time. Prophet absolutely deals death with the thing in this episode of the Seven Wonders so check it out below to see for yourself.

Crysis 3 is due out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on February 19th, 2013.

  • Pick Up Crysis 1 & 2 For $5 Each Today Only On Origin

EA is offering a great deal for people who use Origin, letting you pick up the original Crysis and its sequel Crysis 2 for just $5.00 each. The regular price on these games are currently $19.99 and $39.99 respectively so this really is an amazing deal if you haven't played the games yet.

With Crysis 3 around the corner, it really makes sense to catch up on the story so far and what better way to do that then dropping $10 and playing through them for yourself? We could talk up the Crysis franchise all day, but the bottom line is this; $5.00 is a ridiculous deal for either one of these games. The only reason you shouldn't be picking them both up is if you are strapped for cash or already own both of these.

    Crysis 2: http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.248837800

This deal expires at the end of the day, so don't wait too long to make up your mind.

Crytek has released the third episode of their Seven Wonders of Crysis 3 series, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Albert Hughes. It's been a while since episode 2 was released, so we'll get you up to speed really quick.

The series is being produced in conjunction with Albert Hughes, a man who Crytek pulled in to share his creative insight on the project. In the game, CELL has encapsulated New York City in a massive Nanodome. The world within is completely changed by this foreign atmosphere and has naturally been divided into seven distinct regions, known as the Seven Wonders.

In the Seven Wonders series, Albert Hughes delivers a creative look at these unique environments and at some gameplay aspects in the process. So far, we've seen:

    • Episode 1: Hell of a Town
    • Episode 2: The Hunt

Today, the team has released Episode 3: Cause and Effect. Check it out above and make sure you follow along for more Crysis 3 updates at http://www.fpsgeneral.com/news/crysis-3.

Crytek has released a couple brand new videos for their upcoming first-person shooter, Crysis 3. The first of these videos is actually the second episode of the 7 Wonders of Crysis 3 series, which they produced alongside filmmaker Albert Hughes. The first episode focused on Prophet's return to New York City, which is now encased in a massive Nanodome courtesy of CELL.

In today's episode, entitled 'The Hunt', Crytek is focusing on the grassland area that will enable Prophet to prowl through the grass taking enemies out. In the video below, Prophet makes use of the lethal Predator Bow as he stalks through the tall grassy areas. "No matter the target, Crysis 3's Predator Bow has a tactical solution to any problem you may face in the Seven Wonders of the Nanodome," says Crytek. This is evidenced pretty clearly in the latest episode and we're looking forward to getting our hands on the Predator Bow when the game ships early next year.

The second video is actually a sneak preview of part of Crysis 3's singleplayer campaign. In the video, we see Prophet and Psycho trying to escape a trainyard in New York City. The duo make use of explosive arrows in this preview, but the choice is up to the player. Using Prophet's Nanosuit modules, players can choose to go stealthy and sneak past the CEPH Stalkers rather than taking them head on.

Explosive arrows are kind of more straight to the point, however.

Check out both videos after the break and visit http://www.crysis.com/ for more information on Crysis 3.

  • Crytek Debuts First Episode of the 'Seven Wonders of Crysis 3' Series

    • By NateRios 12/17/2012 6:23:06 PM

Earlier this month, Crytek announced that they had partnered up with film maker Albert Hughes to produce a multi-part video series called 'The Seven Wonders of Crysis 3'.

This series is based on the 7 distinct regions in Crysis 3, also known as the 'Seven Wonder's. These unique areas will challenge Prophet in new ways, requiring him to change his tactics as he hunts down CELL operators and seeks to stop the corruption of the evil corporation. This first video, directed by Albert Hughes, focuses on the overgrown, wrecked New York City. Trees and verdant plants have grown up all over the city as the 'world reclaim[s] what we've stolen from it.' Buildings and streets can be glimpsed among the wildly growing foliage, but this is not New York City as you may know it.

Albert Hughes and the guys at Crytek have done a really great job here, showing off the environments in Crysis 3 while delivering some fascinating back story on Crysis 3's campaign. The narration clearly explains what has happened since the events of Crysis 2 and we think these videos are going to be the perfect segue from now until Crysis 3 ships in February, 2013.

Take a look at the video below and make sure you're following us on Facebook and Twitter to learn when future episodes of Crysis 3's 'Seven Wonders of Crysis 3' are released.

The premise in Crysis 3 is that the entirety of Manhattan has been encased in a massive Nanodome, for the 'safety' of its citizens. Inside this dome, there exist 7 unique and distinct regions that the player will traverse in Crysis 3.

Crytek and EA are teaming up with acclaimed director Albert Hughes to produce a series of short videos based on these regions, known as 7 Wonders of Crysis 3. Hughes is perhaps best known for directing From Hell and The Book of Eli. As Hughes says, EA and Crytek wanted to give Crysis 3 a proper film treatment that played out as a cinematic short. As gorgeous as Crysis 3 is (on PC), these short videos look every bit as beautiful.

The trailer above gives a very brief glimpse of what Crysis fans can expect, and we're very excited to see what Hughes and the teams at Crytek and EA end up with. The series will debut on December 12th, 2012 - just a week away from today!

Stay tuned to FPS General to be up to date on all-things Crysis 3, including this very exciting '7 Wonders of Crysis 3' series.

    • 1

Crysis has long been a franchise that pushes the boundaries of what modern PCs can handle graphically, making use of the latest software to produce some of the most gorgeous environments and settings in this day and age. There was a time that running Crysis was a benchmark against which all PCs must be held.

With Crysis now a multiplatform franchise, we've been admittedly curious how Crysis 3 will stack up on PC. Crysis 2 was a great looking game, but didn't seem to really push the boundaries as much as the original Crysis. Well, Crytek has revealed the minimum, recommended and high-performance system specifications for Crysis 3 on PC and we're starting to feel like Crysis 3 is going to be a very beautiful game, indeed.

Before we even delve into the specs, take the time to appreciate how scalable the Crysis 3 experience is. Here is a game that is designed to play well on PCs of every level of power. That is something that too few game developers really take into consideration these days.

MINIMUM SYSTEM OPERATING REQUIREMENTS FOR PC

    • Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
    • DirectX 11 graphics card with 1Gb Video RAM
    • Dual core CPU
    • 2GB Memory (3GB on Vista)

  • Pre-Order Crysis 3, Receive Original Crysis Free of Charge

    • By NateRios 11/1/2012 9:06:30 PM
    • Category IconCrysis 3
    • 0

Crytek has announced that all players who pre-order their upcoming first-person shooter, Crysis 3, will receive a copy of the original, groundbreaking shooter, Crysis, free of charge.

Upon its release and for a solid year afterwards, Crysis was the metric against which all other games were held. "Sure, that game looks great but it's not Crysis." and, "You spent how much on your PC? Can you run Crysis?" became seemingly daily occurrences in the PC community.

While Crysis might have since been surpassed - it has been 5 years after all - the game is still just as good as it was when Crytek released it in 2007. If you've been wanting to get your hands on the game that started what would ultimately be at least a three game franchise, Crytek is giving you a chance to pick it up for free.

All you have to do is pre-order Crysis 3 on any platform to receive a free digital copy of Crysis. When you pre-order Crysis 3, you are automatically upgraded to the Hunter Edition of the game. In addition to the free copy of Crysis, players who pre-order will also get a headstart in multiplayer with day one access to the Predator bow and its attachments, as well as the Hunter module for the Nanosuit.

  • Introduction to Crysis 3 Multiplayer With Crytek's Mike Read

    • By NateRios 10/9/2012 11:02:36 PM
    • Category IconCrysis 3
    • 0

We definitely can't wait to continue the single player story in Crysis 3, but once that game mode has run its course, we're going to be putting some intense hours into competitive multiplayer. So, we were glad to see Mike Read, Producer on Crysis 3, giving us the rundown on what to expect in the game's multiplayer component.

While Crysis 3 isn't simply a rehash of the multiplayer portion of Crysis 2, it does bring back the 6v6 player cap; something that players weren't always thrilled about in the last game. On PC, games will feature up to 16 players (two teams of 8 players).

The first game mode discussed is Crytek's take on a classic Infected-style game mode. When the match begins, the odds are heavily in favor of the Hunted as they have many more players on their team initially. But as the Hunter gets kills, he 'infects' the enemy player, causing him to spawn as a Hunter. Thus, the ranks of the Hunters swell as the game progresses until it is ultimately down to just one survivor.

If you've played Infected in Modern Warfare 3 or any other variation throughout the years, you'll be right at home.

Returning from Crysis 2 is Crash Site, an objective-driven game mode that we absolutely loved in the last game. Brand new to Crysis 3, however, is the Ceph Pinger - a massive, powerful mech that players can control. If an enemy Pinger is giving you a hassle, try engaging your Nanosuit's cloaking ability, flank the Pinger and you can actually climb up and remove the current pilot by force; something we'll be doing religiously.

Crysis 3 is due out in February of 2013.

It's been a big summer season for Crytek and the team working on Crysis 3. The game had strong showings at E3, Gamescom, PAX Prime and every big convention in between. Now that a large group of media members have had a chance to get their hands on Crysis 3, you might be wondering how they are reacting to the game.

Well, Crytek has your answers in the Summer Accolades Trailer for Crysis 3. This trailer features some tried and true footage of Crysis 3, interspersed with quotes pulled from gaming journalists. The footage looks great, as always, and we can't wait for the game to hit shelves next year.

We've got Black Ops 2, Medal of Honor: Warfighter and a host of other great shooters coming this year, but it's comforting to know that 2013 already has one great shooter lined up.
