The DLC expands the story of Issac Clarke and John Carver. The duo find themselves left for dead on Tau Volantis, stuck on the wrecked ship Terra Nova. Carver and Clarke must find a way off the ship and avoid the awful death at the hands of the cruel Unitologists.
Dead Space 3: Awakened will be available on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and PC via Origin on March 12th, 2013.
Earlier this morning, a report surfaced online indicating that Dead Space, as a franchise, may be canned by Electronic Arts. The story, citing unnamed sources, says that Dead Space 3 failed to meet its sales goals and, as such, Dead Space 4 has been cancelled and the franchise put on hiatus.
As well as discussing Dead Space 4's alleged cancellation, our source also gave us further insight into Dead Space 3's development, telling us that the game was almost cancelled partway through its development, and saw continuous cuts made to its budget throughout production.
Weapon-specific ammo was allegedly switched for generic ammo late in development, too, as a method for shoehorning in the game's controversial micro-transactions.
EA also advised Visceral that Dead Space 3 needed to appeal to a wider audience than the series' previous two titles, our source added, and the studio was reportedly told to focus on action over horror in an effort to make the game feel more like BioWare's Mass Effect.
For their part, Electronic Arts and Visceral Games are both denying the report, with EA saying: "While we have not announced sales for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA."
One Visceral Games employee sounded off on Twitter, saying:

Dead Space 3 released last week and, while we've personally been enjoying it, the game has soared straight to the top of the charts in the United Kingdom, surpassing the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, FIFA 13 and Far Cry 3 while unseating the previous #1 game Ni no Kuni.
As you're undoubtedly familiar, Dead Space 3 follows the story of Isaac Clarke as he battles the Necromorphs on a brand new planet, Tau Volantis. Joining him on the icy tundra of a planet is John Carver, a soldier with a very troubling past that plagues him throughout the game. When a second player joins in for some co-op action, they play as Carver.

Just a reminder this morning that it's February 5th and Dead Space 3 is in stores now. The much-anticipated third-person shooter is available in North America today and will arrive in Europe this Friday, February 8th.
Dead Space 3 follows the story of franchise protagonist Isaac Clarke as he arrives on Tau Volantis with Ellie Langford and a new character, John Carver. The addition of Carver makes for an awesome drop-in, drop-out cooperative experience as a second player can join the action at any time, playing as the grizzled soldier. Tau Volantis is a hostile, frozen nightmare that Carver and Clarke will have to survive if they hope to rescue Ellie, who becomes separated from them upon arriving on the planet.
Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer on Dead Space 3, said this morning in a press release:
With Dead Space 3 our goal was to evolve the franchise bringing in innovative new features like drop-in/drop-out co-op, weapon crafting, and an engaging atmosphere while still retaining the incredible suspense, horror, action and sound that the series is known for.
Gamers are going to be thrown in and out of space, taken to a violent new ice planet and allowed to explore several different abandoned spaceships and caves. But we’re not stopping there. In Dead Space 3 Awakened, gamers will experience some of the most disturbing content they have ever seen in a Dead Space game – they are going to love it.
Early reviews for Dead Space 3 are looking great, with Italian review outlet Multiplayer.it and Australia's AusGamers both giving it a 9.0. Game Informer gave the game a 9.75 out of 10, saying that Dead Space 3 is, 'the most polished, well-paced entry in the excellent sci-fi horror series yet. Bringing a friend along for two-player co-op is a blast.'

Dead Space 3 is due out in just a few short days, so it's time to start familiarizing yourself with the story that Visceral Games is telling with this third installment of the franchise.
The game, once again, follows the happenings of Isaac Clarke. He has been the protagonist of the Dead Space series since that fateful crash into the landing bay of the Ishimura. In Dead Space 3, the story picks up a few months after the events of the previous game. Clarke and Ellie Langford come in contact with John Carver, a survivor of the Necromorph attack on the planet Uxor. The trio discover Tau Volantis, a frozen wasteland of a planet where they discover that someone had been able to stop a Necromorph outbreak.
Unfortunately, their ship breaks apart upon entry and Ellie is separated from Clarke and Carver. As a result, the two decide to pursue and rescue Ellie in addition to doing their best to solve the Necromorph problem once and for all. Dead Space 3 supports a drop-in, drop-out co-op system that would let a second player join as Carver at any given time. The game actually changes based on whether one or two players are playing, as Carver has a very interesting backstory himself.

Dead Space 3 might not hit shelves until next week, but that doesn't mean you can't check out the game's launch trailer a week in advance. EA and Visceral Games have released that very trailer this morning and it looks great.
If you haven't been following the game, Dead Space 3 once again revolves around Isaac Clarke but this time he has company. Shortly after the events of Dead Space 2, Clarke comes in contact with John Carver and discovers the frozen planet of Tau Volantis. Upon landing on the planet, Carver and Clarke become separated from Ellie Langford (returning from Dead Space 2) and must battle the hostile terrain and new Necromorph variants as they struggle to reach her.
At any time, a second player can join Isaac Clarke and play as John Carver who has what appears to be a fascinating back story himself. Carver struggles with inner demons throughout the game, sometimes leaving Clarke on his own while he battles with his personal trauma in a world of his own. Carver's story seems pretty heavy and we're really looking forward to learning more when the game hits shelves next week.

EA has released the Dead Space 3 demo on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this morning, giving you a chance to step into the shoes of Isaac Clarke a few weeks in advance. The demo also features co-op, so you and a friend can comb through Tau Volantis, scavenging for parts and taking down Necromorphs in style.

Add voice to your arsenal and amplify the action with Kinect in single player or co-op. Heal yourself by saying "Quick Heal" and give your co-op partner more ammunition by saying "Give Partner Ammo".

Electronic Arts and Visceral Games have released some details on what exactly players will be getting in the 'Dev Team Edition' of Dead Space 3, their upcoming third-person shooter. This isn't your typical collector's edition and has actually been assembled by the very people who developed the game, as a special thank you to fans who have been investing time in Isaac Clarke since the very first game in 2008.
“We’re super excited to team-up with Treehouse and make something extra special for gamers that have been supporting us since the first Dead Space game,” said Visceral Games VP Steve Papoutsis. “We, as a development team, really wanted to put our personal touch on these exclusive items so that they feel authentic and meaningful to our passionate fan base.”

Visceral Games has posted an in-depth blog update over on the Dead Space 3 blog, discussing the Marker-induced dementia that plagues both Isaac Clarke and newcomer protagonist John Carver. Without spoiling too much, Isaac Clarke doesn't struggle with the madness brought on by the Markers, but Carver is not so lucky.
Having lived a difficult life before even arriving on Tau Volantis, Carver is more susceptible to the inner demons that the Markers can wreak havoc with. Having grown resentful of his family, Carver is crushed when they are taken from him during a Necromorph outbreak. The internal struggle and inability to express his grief leaves Carver vulnerable to the Marker-induced dementia. As hard as it might be, Carver has to confront his past before he can ever move on from his inner demons.
From a gameplay standpoint, this feeds into the cooperative element of Dead Space 3. If you are playing as Carver during these side missions, you will experience the world through a demented state, with constant reminders of the trauma that plagues Carvers past. On the other side of the coin, playing as Isaac Clarke is a completely different experience. Clarke sees the world as it is, and must watch as Carver struggles with beings that don't exist in the physical world.

Visceral Games has released a brand new trailer for Dead Space 3, focusing on the cooperative side of the game. Players can opt to play through the game with a friend, rather than going it alone.
In doing so, the second player will take on the role of John Carver. Carver, unfortunately, has a very troubled past that has led him to his current battle with dementia and hallucinations. Having witness firsthand a Necromorph outbreak that forced him to fight through hordes of beasts as he struggled to reach his family, Carver still strugles with these issues. Periodically, Carver will become consumed by hallucinations and Isaac must defend him from the real-world threat of Necromorphs on Tau Volantis. This can be evidenced in the trailer below.
Whether or not you play cooperatively is totally up to you and with the drop-in, drop-out system, it seems like it's going to be pretty easy to join up with a friend online.
Dead Space 3 is set to arrive on February 5th, 2013 in North America on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The game will ship in Europe on February 8th.

Gamescom 2012 is in full force in Cologne, Germany and every games published and developer is rushing out to release a new batch of screenshots, a trailer or some brand new tidbits to celebrate the biggest gaming convention in Europe.
Not one to be left out, Electronic Arts has taken a hefty arsenal of great games with them to Gamescom, not the least of which is Dead Space 3. The third installment in Visceral Games' epic series of sci-fi survival horror games was just given a release date and a brand new trailer yesterday, and now we have some great new screenshots.

Dead Space 3 has been given a release date and a brand new trailer, courtesy of Electronic Arts and Gamescom! The biggest gaming convention in Europe got underway in Germany and news is starting to make its way to familiar shores, including the announcement that Dead Space 3 will hit shelves on February 8th, 2013!
In addition to that announcement, EA has released the trailer above for Dead Space 3, showing what players will experience when they land on Tau Volantis. The frozen planet holds the key to the Necromorph threat, but it's not going to be easy. Joining series protagonist Isaac Clarke is John Carver, who will serve as a co-op Player Two for those that choose to play Dead Space 3 with a friend.

Visceral Games has released a massive video update for Dead Space 3, bringing raw gameplay with narration by Dead Space 3 Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis.
The gameplay, which clocks in at over 20 minutes, will undoubtedly bring a bit of reassurance to folks who were in doubt after seeing the game at E3. Something we love about Dead Space, and that a lot of players seem to enjoy as well, is the eerie, dark environments in the previous games. When we saw Dead Space 3 at E3, it looked like Tau Volantis - the ice planet that the game takes place on - would be too open to allow for that sort of quiet, false sense of security that we enjoyed in previous games.
Visceral Games announced their latest project Dead Space 3 at E3 this year, and introduced a brand new character into the fold.
In co-op gameplay, player two will be playing the role of John Carver, Isaac Clarke's new partner. Carver has no love for the Necromorph's and joins Isaac in the mission to destroy them. Isaac is on a mission to end the Necromorph threat by attacking them on the planet of Tau Volantis. This frigid planet is teeming with Necromorph beasts so whenever you need an extra hand, players can call on one of their friends to assume the role of Carver and help them out.

Electronic Arts kicked off their E3 2012 press event with the official confirmation of Dead Space 3!
This is a game we've been looking forward to since hearing rumors back in April of this year. The game once agains puts players in the boots of Isaac Clarke, but this time he's heading to a snowbound planet with hopes of finally eradicating the Necromorph forces once and for all. Joining Clarke is a new character by the name of John Carver. Carver is a merciless soldier who will be the player character of Player Two in Dead Space 3's co-op mode, which we saw a bit of at EA's press event...
After much speculation over the last year or so, Electronic Arts has confirmed that there is a new Dead Space game being developed.
As for new information...that's it. EA has announced that the game is indeed being developed but for more information, we're going to have to hold out until E3 which is set to get underway in Los Angeles in early June. Speaking with Game Informer, EA said that, "there’s no further information today but watch for several big product announcements from EA at E3 in June."
Rumors abound, however, that the game will once again feature protagonist Isaac Clarke and that he may be visiting an ice planet known as Tau Volantis. According to rumor, Isaac will be running a rescue mission on Tau Volantis and that he may be racked with a personality disorder that spawns a new character known as Shadow Isaac.

Rumors are swirling around the Internet this morning that Visceral Games and Electronic Arts may be poised to unveil Dead Space 3, although neither company has confirmed the existence of a follow-up to 2011's sci-fi survival horror game.
The rumors started when a South African retailer, BT Games, suddenly listed Dead Space 3 on their website. The retailer didn't have any information on the game, nor can we account for their credibility, but it certainly got the rumor mill turning this morning. Neither EA nor Visceral have made any official statement regarding these rumors, but we'll certainly be following along for any further development.
