  • 5TH Cell Shows Off Third-Person Shooter Hybrid at E3

    • By NateRios 6/8/2012 9:18:55 PM

5TH Cell was on hand in Los Angeles, showing off Hybrid, their upcoming Xbox Live Arcade third-person shooter. The game has some pretty awesome mechanics that we think our readers will be excited about.

Hybrid takes place in post-apocalyptic world and pits the Variant and the Paladin against each other in battle. Every player in Hybrid is equipped with a jetpack and while flying combat in the game is very fun and satisfying, it's also a requirement to get around the map. Unless you like falling to your death through the areas of the map with nothing below but death, you'll have to use the jetpack to make your way around the area.

When PlanetSide 2 launches later this year, Sony Online Entertainment will be launching an iOS app alongside the game. We had the chance to sit down with Josh Hackney, Executive Producer on Planetside 2, as he walks us through some of the features we can look forward to. Incidentally, we also interviewed Josh Hackney earlier this week, so check that out, while you're at it!

The application is going to be available on iOS - for iPhone, iPad and iPod - but Sony Online Entertainment didn't confirm whether it would be exclusively available on that platform, so Android and Windows Phone users don't despair! The iOS app features a handful of sections to bring PlanetSide 2 players relevant information on their personal stats and the goings on of the PlanetSide 2 community.

  • Check Out Gears of War: Judgement's OverRun Mode In Action

    • By NateRios 6/6/2012 8:38:18 PM

    • 0

Gears of War: Judgement is going to be introducing many new systems to the Gears of War franchise, but one that sticks out is the new OverRun game mode.

We took an in-depth look at OverRun Mode earlier this week, but now you can see it in action thanks to some raw gameplay that Microsoft has put out there for public consumption. OverRun Mode is a really exciting game mode, and one that we think players are going to love when they get their hands on it next year. The basic premise is that Locusts must attack the COG generator in order to win. But to do so, they must break through multiple objectives across multiple areas on the map.

  • Hands On With Gears of War: Judgement's New Game Systems

    • By NateRios 6/6/2012 6:05:50 PM

    • 0

Having had the chance to check out Gears of War: Judgement at E3 2012, there are a few brand new game systems coming that we wanted to share with you guys.

Desiring to change up the Gears of War franchise along with the addition of more creative minds at People Can Fly, several new systems and game modes are begin added to Gears of War: Judgement. In this article, we'll take a look at OverRun Mode, the S3 system in campaign mode and the Declassification System, also in campaign.

    OverRun Mode

Having already taken a pretty close look at OverRun Mode previously, we won't go into too many details here. For the full preview, check out our original story. Basically, OverRun Mode is an awesome new multiplayer game mode that, as per usual, pits COG soldiers vs the Locust horde. OverRun is different in many ways from typical competitive multiplayer.

In OverRun, the Locust horde must attack a COG generator, but to do so they have to first break through multiple objectives. Each objective successfully breached moves the fighting to a new location on the map, much in the way that Rush mode works in Battlefield. Both Locust and COG classes work together in different ways, and it looks like Epic Games and People Can Fly are really pushing hard for teamwork in online multiplayer.

  • Sony Shows Off The Last of Us at E3

    • By NateRios 6/6/2012 1:46:38 AM
    • Category IconThe Last of Us
    • 0

The Last of Us is easily one of our most anticipated games of this year (although it may come out next year), and the game looked just as exciting at E3.

The video above shows off the gameplay demo that Naughty Dog brought with them for Sony's E3 event. Naughty Dog is unparalleled when it comes to gorgeous environments and photo-realistic characters. Joel and Ellie both share the worn look of people struggling to survive, where every step might be their last. The chaos in the game world is evident by the buildings sitting in disrepair, the overturned lamp posts, the wrecked and abandoned vehicles. But the most chilling way that we come to understand Joel and Ellie's world is the lack of human presence.

Joel and Ellie truly are alone for much of the gameplay demo and the only people they do encounter, tend to be hostile.

We're more than a little excited for DUST 514, and it was great to see the game in action at E3. • 0

Defiance has been getting us excited for a while, so to finally get some hands on time with the game at E3 was great.

If you're not familiar with the game, that should change in the future, as we get closer to the ultimate launch date. Defiance is both a television program on SyFy channel and a third-person shooter set in an immersive, persistent MMO game world. While the concept is ambitious, we've been a bit hesitant to get too pumped up before actually seeing the game in person and getting a chance to play it for a while.

After seeing it, we're definitely looking forward for the release date when we can play with others online. Defiance will boast a variety of vehicles. The SyFy program will launch at around the same time as Defiance the game goes live, and actions in one can affect the other.

Call of Duty ELITE's brand new web series, Cocked Hammers, looks hilarious and stars two very funny actors in Will Arnett and Jason Bateman.

Activision has released a preview of the series, which you can check out above, in which Jason Bateman struggles to get a kill on Will Arnet as they're playing Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer. The antics of the two, and their chemistry together, makes Cocked Hammers pretty entertaining. Granted, this is only a promotional video, the full series will go live sometime soon, but it looks like we have something pretty enjoyable here.

Fighting zombies in video games is becoming something of a great American pastime. But, as Americans, we're constantly pushing forward and bringing new things into the world. Thus, we present ZombiU, a brand new way to slay zombies in a video game.

ZombiU is being developed by Ubisoft and is exclusively available on the Nintendo Wii U. Using the amazingly exciting Wii U controller, or WiiPad as it is being called, players will have to keep their eyes on multiple screens lest they have those very eyes plucked out and consumed by the undead. The Nintendo Wii U controller has a digital screen built into it, if you didn't know, and it can be used in conjunction with the images being displayed on your television screen as well...

  • An Extended Look at Medal of Honor's E3 Campaign Demo

    • 0

Medal of Honor: Warfighter really impressed us yesterday at the Electronic Arts event at E3. It was great to see that Danger Close is putting Frostbite 2.0 to good use, and the environments and mechanics look gorgeous so far.

The mission in this singleplayer demo takes place in Somalia, focusing around a group of Tier 1 Operators known as Task Force Mako. Right off the bat, you can see the destructible environments that Frostbite 2.0 is capable of producing as the Operators come under fire beneath a wooden dock. Bits and pieces of wood get ripped apart from incoming bullets and the player is able to shoot away part of the surface to create their own line of sight.

  • Sam Fisher Gets a New Voice Actor For Splinter Cell: Blacklist

    • 0

Yesterday at E3, Ubisoft unveiled Splinter Cell: Blacklist, a brand new entry into Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell franchise. The story brings new life to protagonist Sam Fisher in more ways than one.

To start with, Fisher has a whole new arsenal of weapons, gadgets and abilities that make him even more lethal a spy. He is heading up the Fourth Echelon, assigned by the President of the United States to take down a terrorist organization in the Middle East. Fisher is not just getting new moves and equipment, however, but a brand new voice actor as well.

Michael Ironsides has long been the voice of Sam Fisher, the voice of Splinter Cell, but as Ubisoft updates their motion-capture technology, they are doing more than just voice acting. Actors are now going to be using full capture technology, meaning that their voices and body motion will be captured together.

  • Mass Effect 3 Heading to Wii U As Launch Title

During Nintendo's E3 press event this morning, it was unveiled that Mass Effect 3 will be a launch title when the Nintendo Wii U launches worldwide.

There wasn't a whole lot of shooter action at the Nintendo press event, but we didn't necessarily expect that there would be. BioWare confirmed that Mass Effect 3 would be releasing on the Wii U as one of the game's launch titles, and we can't wait to check the game out with these exciting Wii U controls and systems.

    @BioWare
BioWare officially makes its debut on Wii U w/ Mass Effect 3! ‪#ME3‬ will be a launch title on the ‪#WiiU‬-expected Holiday 2012. Stay tuned!

We're hoping that the Wii U will be ready for a Holiday 2012 launch but Nintendo wasn't ready to comment on that just yet.

Stay tuned for more information as it continues to pour out of E3!

Ubisoft didn't bring a whole arsenal of shooters to E3 this year, but the ones they did have impressed us to no end. Watch Dogs isn't necessarily a third-person shooter, but those mechanics clearly play a pivotal role in this open-world game and we think you're going to be excited about this one.

Watch Dogs came out of nowhere for us, we didn't know Ubisoft was bringing it to E3 and we didn't know how awe inspiring the demo was going to be once we'd seen it. In Watch Dogs grim future, the world's infrastructure is controlled by a single supercomputer. This means all data is being controlled and regulated by a single source and thus everything can be accessed if you have the skills.

Ubisoft takes us through the paces as Sam Fisher in the official E3 2012 Splinter Cell: Blacklist gameplay demo.

In the video, embedded above, Ubisoft walks us through a demo mission in which they play as Sam Fisher. The story focuses on a discreet terrorist network that is launching systematic attacks against the United States. Fisher is sent in to lead the Fourth Echelon, a deniable operations unit, and stop this terrorist threat.

Utilizing some fantastic stealth mechanics and even a slow-motion effect similar to Max Payne's Bullet Time, Fisher marks his targets and executes them with incredible precision. Blending third-person shooter action with climbing mechanics that would make Nathan Drake proud, the demo takes us through this Middle Eastern urban environment while Sam takes his enemies down one at a time.

Electronic Arts has been making a strong showing at E3 this year, thanks to a strong lineup of exciting games, not the least of which is Battlefield 3.

The game got even more exciting at E3 this year, with the announcement of Battlefield 3 Premium and now with some brand new DLC screenshots.

In the galleries below, we get a good look at both Armored Kill and Close Quarters - the first two DLC expansions in a planned four-part DLC season. While we don't have screenshots yet, we do have cover art for both End Game and Aftermath, which you can check out to the right and left in this article.

Close Quarters and Armored Kill look nothing short of gorgeous, as we have come to expect when DICE, Frostbite 2 and Battlefield come in contact with each other.

While Close Quarters did only launch today - and exclusively on PlayStation 3 at that - we can't help getting pumped up already for Armored Kill. DICE excels at putting together incredible vehicles and we can't wait to see what they have cooked up for Armored Kill.

Check out both galleries after the break and enjoy! PlayStation 3 users can start playing Close Quarters right now.
