• Respawn Entertainment Coming to E3, New Game in Hand?

    Respawn Entertainment is officially going to be on hand at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, more affectionately called E3, this year. We've been waiting for a good couple years now to hear something substantial from Respawn and it looks like the moment is nearly upon us. But let's step back a bit here.

    There's a good chance you are saying to yourself right now, 'who exactly is Respawn Entertainment and why should I care about their game?' That's a good question, and thankfully we have a good answer.

    Without getting into all of the schoolyard drama that went down a few years back, the first thing you need to understand is that Respawn Entertainment was born from the falling out of Infinity Ward. Jason West and Vince Zampella, two of the founders and top executives at Infinity Ward, were shown the door due to what Activision called 'breaches of contract and insubordination'. Along with West and Zampella went 46 employees, a wealth of top developers and designers, although those employees left of their own accord declining to reveal why they left.

    Flash forward a few years and most of these employees have rejoined West and Zampella in their new venture, Respawn Entertainment. The duo signed a deal with EA Partners to publish their unannounced title which is believed to be a first-person shooter, set in a sci-fi world.

  • No Big Reveal From Respawn Entertainment at E3

    In 2009, after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released, Infinity Ward had something of an internal meltdown. Studio founders Jason West and Vince Zampella were fired by Activision and accusations flew from both sides.

    While we have no idea who is at fault for the split, we do know that when West and Zampella departed Infinity Ward, a healthy group of developers and designers went with them. Most of those folks ended up being taken on at West and Zampella's new studio, Respawn Entertainment. We know that Respawn is working on something big, and with team members on board who literally helped create Call of Duty...we're really excited to see their next project.

    Unfortunately, we're not going to be seeing it at E3 this year. Respawn has announced that there will be no big reveal at E3 this year. Said Respawn Entertainment Community Manager Abbie Heppe, "Some of us will be present at E3, but we won't be showing anything or doing any press related to the game."
