  • EA Working With Albert Hughes on '7 Wonders of Crysis 3' Video Series

The premise in Crysis 3 is that the entirety of Manhattan has been encased in a massive Nanodome, for the 'safety' of its citizens. Inside this dome, there exist 7 unique and distinct regions that the player will traverse in Crysis 3.

Crytek and EA are teaming up with acclaimed director Albert Hughes to produce a series of short videos based on these regions, known as 7 Wonders of Crysis 3. Hughes is perhaps best known for directing From Hell and The Book of Eli. As Hughes says, EA and Crytek wanted to give Crysis 3 a proper film treatment that played out as a cinematic short. As gorgeous as Crysis 3 is (on PC), these short videos look every bit as beautiful.

The trailer above gives a very brief glimpse of what Crysis fans can expect, and we're very excited to see what Hughes and the teams at Crytek and EA end up with. The series will debut on December 12th, 2012 - just a week away from today!

Stay tuned to FPS General to be up to date on all-things Crysis 3, including this very exciting '7 Wonders of Crysis 3' series.

  • Crytek Reveals System Specifications for Crysis 3

    • By NateRios 12/4/2012 6:07:33 PM
    • Category IconCrysis 3
    • 1

Crysis has long been a franchise that pushes the boundaries of what modern PCs can handle graphically, making use of the latest software to produce some of the most gorgeous environments and settings in this day and age. There was a time that running Crysis was a benchmark against which all PCs must be held.

With Crysis now a multiplatform franchise, we've been admittedly curious how Crysis 3 will stack up on PC. Crysis 2 was a great looking game, but didn't seem to really push the boundaries as much as the original Crysis. Well, Crytek has revealed the minimum, recommended and high-performance system specifications for Crysis 3 on PC and we're starting to feel like Crysis 3 is going to be a very beautiful game, indeed.

Before we even delve into the specs, take the time to appreciate how scalable the Crysis 3 experience is. Here is a game that is designed to play well on PCs of every level of power. That is something that too few game developers really take into consideration these days.

MINIMUM SYSTEM OPERATING REQUIREMENTS FOR PC

    • Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
    • DirectX 11 graphics card with 1Gb Video RAM
    • Dual core CPU
    • 2GB Memory (3GB on Vista)
    • Example 1 (Nvidia/Intel):
      • Nvidia GTS 450
      • Intel Core2 Duo 2.4 Ghz (E6600)
    • Example 2 (AMD):
      • MD Radeon HD5770
      • AMD Athlon64 X2 2.7 Ghz (5200+)

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM OPERATING REQUIREMENTS FOR PC

    • Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
    • DirectX 11 graphics card with 1GB Video RAM
    • Quad core CPU
    • 4GB Memory
    • Example 1 (Nvidia/Intel):
      • Nvidia GTX 560
      • Intel Core i3-530
    • Example 2 (AMD):
      • AMD Radeon HD5870
      • AMD Phenom II X2 565

The high-performance system settings are even more demanding, so if you think your machine has what it takes to handle Crysis 3, keep reading for the full high-performance specifications.

  • EA: DICE Is Not 'A Battlefield Factory', Has Other Projects in the Works

    • By NateRios 11/21/2012 6:02:05 PM
    • Category IconBattlefield 3
    • 0

OXM posted an interview this morning with Electronic Arts vice-president Patrick Soderlund, in which he revealed that EA does not want DICE to become 'a Battlefield factory', that perpetually churns out Battlefield titles.

This means that the studio does, indeed, have other projects in the works aside from Battlefield 4.

    Patrick Soderlund, EA Vice President

The minute we start saying 'you're going to make a Battlefield game for the rest of your life', they're going to go some place else. So for them to make great Battlefield games there need to be other things for them to do as well. That's why we have people who move around quite a bit. And then obviously we have a boatload of people that just want to make Battlefield because they love it.

While we speculated on whether this would mean a brand new franchise or perhaps a sequel to something DICE made previously (Mirror's Edge), the news was spilled on Twitter that DICE was, indeed, working on Mirror's Edge 2. The news this morning is coming from a Tweet delivered by form DICE executive producer, who said:

It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE eurogamer.net/articles/2012-…

    — Ben Cousins (@BenjaminCousins) November 21, 2012

As much as we tend to rely on Twitter for breaking news these days, it is not a guarantee of accuracy by any stretch so take this rumor with a grain of salt.

None the less, we're excited to see what DICE can do with Frostbite 2 outside of Battlefield. We've loved the game engine in uses that other developers have put it to, but we're curious to see how the masters themselves can use it in a non-Battlefield game.

  • BioWare Releases Handful of Omega DLC Screenshots

    • By NateRios 11/9/2012 8:33:20 PM

    • 0

BioWare has released a handful of Mass Effect 3: Omega DLC screenshots, showing off some of the environments and characters that will be a part of this massive content update.

Mass Effect 3: Omega follows the story of the Omega Space Station and Aria T'loak's attempt to take it back from Cerberus hands. As Aria struggles to take back Omega, a Space Station she once ruled, she will need to call on the aid of her old ally Commander Shepard. Omega has been taken by Cerberus troops under the leadership of one General Petrovsky, working (as you may have guessed) under the orders of The Illusive Man.

This is one of the biggest updates in Mass Effect history, and certainly the biggest for Mass Effect 3. According to BioWare's Mike Gamble, Omega is roughly twice as large as any other content update in Mass Effect 3 history.

Check out a fresh batch of screenshots after the break and let us know if you'll be picking up Mass Effect 3: Omega. The DLC is scheduled to arrive on November 27th, 2012 and will be priced at 1200MSP ($14.99).

  • Medal of Honor: Warfighter Zero Dark Thirty Flyover Trailer

    • By NateRios 11/7/2012 7:43:35 PM
    • Category IconMedal of Honor: Warfighter
    • 0

Danger Close is giving us our first real look at the Zero Dark Thirty DLC map pack that is due to hit Medal of Honor: Warfighter next month, available for free if you pre-ordered the game.

The map pack is inspired by the film Zero Dark Thirty, which in turn is inspired by the real-life events surrounding the assassination of Osama bin Laden. Starting with the decade long manhunt for bin Laden, the film ultimately zeroes in on the assassination that took place a little over a year ago in Pakistan. The raid was carried out by the now-famous Navy SEAL Team 6, which will play a role in the expansion pack for Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

The Zero Dark Thirty map pack introduces two new maps to Warfighter; Darra Gun Market and Chitral Compound. From the official description of these maps:

Darra is home to dozens of back-alley shops and self-taught machinists making guns by hand.

Chitral is highly inaccessible and was thought to be one of Bin Laden's hideouts -- only those with the capabilities of total surprise will successfully penetrate the compound.

Check out http://www.medalofhonor.com/zero-dark-thirty for more information on the Zero Dark Thirty map pack!

  • EA Giving Away Battlefield 1942 For Free

    • By NateRios 11/5/2012 8:32:23 PM
    • Category IconBattlefield 3
    • 0

EA DICE has announced that players can pick up a free copy of Battlefield 1942 on PC via Origin. The press release didn't specify if this is for a limited time, so we would advise picking up the game as soon as you can.

The digital re-release is in honor of both Battlefield's 10th anniversary as a franchise and the surpassing of 2 million global users on Battlefield Premium. These accolades, combined with 10 years of sales on the books, have merited a free copy of Battlefield 1942.

This is a great deal for players who didn't join in on the Battlefield action until the Bad Company games were released, or perhaps even with Battlefield 3. There's nothing wrong with joining the Battlefield community late in the game, but we definitely encourage you to pick up Battlefield 1942.

If nothing else, it will certainly give you a feel for how far these games have really come. On top of that, Battlefield 1942 is one of the great pioneers in first-person shooters and we'd be remiss in our duties if we didn't encourage you to experience the game firsthand.

DICE Vice President & GM, Karl Magnus Troedsson:

“When we launched Battlefield 1942 ten years ago, we had lofty ambitions to create a first-person shooter that would push the boundaries of innovation, creativity and design. We evolved the FPS gameplay formula by introducing the world to all-out warfare via land, air and sea. Since the beginning, the reception to the Battlefield series has been incredible thanks to our amazing fans.

Every day, we strive to provide our community with great games and new ways to play as evident with Battlefield 3 Premium. We wanted to thank our fans who have supported us throughout the years by restoring Battlefield 1942 for a digital re-release and give everyone a chance to play the game that started it all.”

Check it out at http://store.origin.com/ or simply fire up Origin on your PC, it should be the first offer that pops up when you log in.

  • Pre-Order Crysis 3, Receive Original Crysis Free of Charge

    • By NateRios 11/1/2012 9:06:30 PM
    • Category IconCrysis 3
    • 0

Crytek has announced that all players who pre-order their upcoming first-person shooter, Crysis 3, will receive a copy of the original, groundbreaking shooter, Crysis, free of charge.

Upon its release and for a solid year afterwards, Crysis was the metric against which all other games were held. "Sure, that game looks great but it's not Crysis." and, "You spent how much on your PC? Can you run Crysis?" became seemingly daily occurrences in the PC community.

While Crysis might have since been surpassed - it has been 5 years after all - the game is still just as good as it was when Crytek released it in 2007. If you've been wanting to get your hands on the game that started what would ultimately be at least a three game franchise, Crytek is giving you a chance to pick it up for free.

All you have to do is pre-order Crysis 3 on any platform to receive a free digital copy of Crysis. When you pre-order Crysis 3, you are automatically upgraded to the Hunter Edition of the game. In addition to the free copy of Crysis, players who pre-order will also get a headstart in multiplayer with day one access to the Predator bow and its attachments, as well as the Hunter module for the Nanosuit.

For more on Crysis 3, check out http://www.crysis.com/!

  • Preview Battlefield 3's Lethal, Silent Crossbow

    • By NateRios 10/31/2012 11:15:44 PM
    • Category IconBattlefield 3
    • 0

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 isn't the only game boasting a military-grade crossbow these days. With Battlefield 3: Aftermath, DICE is joining the ever-growing club of first-person shooters featuring badass modified crossbows. Oh, Turok called, by the way, he wants his weapon back.

If you've been looking forward to the crossbow like the rest of us, DICE is giving us a preview of the weapon in advance of its November release.

Inspired by real life military engineering ingenuity, this crossbow is created by taking the stock of a malfunctioning assault rifle and adding the other parts needed, like a piece of wire for the string and some scrap metal for the bow mechanic. The result is an improvised and silent way to deliver deadly force to the enemy, including four distinct types of bolts to switch between depending on what the situation calls for.

The crossbow can fire four unique bolts, providing ammunition for any occasion. The standard barbed crossbow bolt is your run-of-the-mill crossbow ammo, capable of dealing high damage but not at any great range. The high explosive bolt is very reminiscent of the original Black Ops. This bolt has C4 attached to the end, exploding on impact. This bolt doesn't deal the same punch that an RPG can issue, but it's a great weapon to have in your arsenal.

Things start to get really interesting with the scan bolt, which actually has a radio transmitter on the end. This is a tactical bolt, and scans the perimeter for enemies upon being fired. This can be a great way to sniff enemies out who may be camping inside buildings near objectives.

Finally, we have the double feathered bolt which deals death over long distances. Thanks to its aerodynamic build, this bolt can effectively serve as a sniper weapon of sorts.

We can't wait to check out the crossbow for ourselves when Battlefield 3: Aftermath goes live in late November.

  • Rush Mode Makes Its Debut in Battlefield Play4Free

    • By NateRios 10/26/2012 4:44:13 PM
    • Category IconBattlefield Play4Free
    • 0

Easy Studios - the other guys that make Battlefield games - have introduced the classic Battlefield game mode Rush in Battlefield Play4Free. The game mode is live as of this morning, ready to play right now.

Rush Mode, if you're not familiar with it, is an objective-based game mode in which players take turns defending and attacking points on the map. The defending team begins with 2 M-COM stations that need to be defended, while the attacking team is bent on destroying them. Attackers can either successfully plant charges on the M-COM stations or inflict enough heavy damage to put them out of commision. Defenders are able to defuse charges and must set up a strong defense to keep the enemy from destroying the stations.

If both M-COM stations are destroyed, the defending team will fall back and a new portion of the map will open up with two more M-COM stations. The match ends when the defending team successfully keeps the enemy from destroying their M-COM stations or when the attacking team manages to destroy all 8 stations.

Rush mode is live right now and you can check it out in action at http://battlefield.play4free.com/.

  • Medal of Honor: Warfighter First Impressions, Plus Server Update Details

    • By NateRios 10/24/2012 9:33:04 PM

    • 0

Medal of Honor: Warfighter was released unto the masses yesterday, arriving on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, dealing a crippling blow to FPS General productivity for the day. We spent most of the day putting hours into competitive multiplayer, but we did dabble in campaign mode as well.

Today, however, we're focusing on the bread and butter of Medal of Honor: Warfighter; online multiplayer. The game feels great, and plays incredibly smoothly. There were some hiccups on launch, with several users reporting ongoing stats resets. While this is a pretty big deal, it seems like Danger Close has taken care of the bug and nobody at FPS General personally experienced it.

Cycling through all of the game modes, on all of the maps, we did our best to experience everything that Medal of Honor: Warfighter multiplayer has to offer - in a nutshell.

Danger Close has done a great job with game modes, offering a variety but not overloading us with a dozen variations on the same concept. If you're looking for objective-based modes, they are there; if you're looking for capture the flag, it's there; if you're looking for straight up Team Deathmatch; you can have it. All of the game modes are fun and diverse, as are all of the player classes.

With 7 player classes, we were a little bit worried that there really wouldn't be a purpose, but as Dave mentions in the video above, each class has a clearly defined role for players to fulfill. These classes also offer access to different weapon types, as well, further defining the purpose of that class on the battlefield.

We've had a great time playing Medal of Honor: Warfighter, and we encourage you to check out the video above, hopefully helping you make an educated purchase.

Click 'Read More' for details on the small but important server update that Danger Close released earlier today.

  • Kit Yourself Out With Some Ghastly Halloween Gear in Battlefield Heroes

    • By NateRios 10/23/2012 7:50:14 PM
    • Category IconBattlefield Heroes
    • 0

Everybody loves a good Halloween celebration, and there's no reason to leave your video games out in the dark. We've seen a few great Halloween celebrations going on in games, and Battlefield Heroes is leading the charge.

The team at Easy Studios has released an absolute ton of great new Halloween-themed content, ranging from straightforward costumes to Underworld Portals and even new weapons to equip yourself with. There's a ton of new content, much of which can be seen in the video above.

The Underworld Portals are special Halloween supply drops, containing rare pieces of the Demon of Chaos, which you can collect. As with any supply drop, you never know what is going to be inside of it but at the very least, you're going to be getting an item that is worth as much as the cost of the Underworld Portal itself, so it's not too risky.

Also, for our money, we're going to be picking up Ichabod's Twisted Set for our Royal hero (because we all know that the Royal Army is superior). There's something about that wicked looking pumpkin head and skeletal frame that looks just about as badass as you can get for Halloween. For you National Army dogs, there is also the Reaper's Skeletal Set which is similar to Ichabod's Set although more skeletal and less pumpkin-headed.

There really is a ton of great content being released, so if you haven't had a chance to check it out, we recommend reading VitalBullet's forum post on the goods at http://www.battlefieldheroes.com/. That will give you all the information you need, including links to the Store where you can purchase these items.

Electronic Arts and Danger Close have officially released the next installment in the Medal of Honor franchise, marking the day with a brand new launch trailer.

This is actually the second launch trailer for Medal of Honor: Warfighter, with a multiplayer-centric trailer making its debut last week. Today's trailer focuses on the singleplayer aspect of the game, inspired by real-life events, soldiers and situations.

Penned by actual Tier 1 Operators, Medal of Honor: Warfighter tells the story of some of the world's most elite special forces soldiers as they track down and attempt to eliminate the group responsible for a major global threat. With the dangerous explosive known as PETN being wielded by a terrorist group, players will carry out missions based on real-life happenings to try and stop the threat before it becomes a reality.

  • DICE Previews Penultimate Battlefield 3 DLC Aftermath

    • By NateRios 10/18/2012 6:38:20 PM
    • Category IconBattlefield 3
    • 0

DICE has given us out first good look at the first of the final two Battlefield 3 DLC offerings, Aftermath. This expansion pack includes a brand new game mode, new vehicles, new environments and even a brand new crossbow that you can use to deliver a quick and silent death to your enemies.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath is inspired by the earthquake theme that features in the single player campaign. This content exists post-earthquake, in the...aftermath...of the crisis. Aftermath introduces some brand new content to Battlefield 3 multiplayer, including the brand new Scavenger game mode:

The new Scavenger mode is a frantic hunt for survival. A new concept to Battlefield, lost soldiers start equipped with only a knife, one grenade, and sidearm and must search the environment for more powerful weapons to increase their chance at surviving and eventually winning.

In Scavenger mode, weapons spawn in predetermined locations all over the map, so it pays to learn the map to stand a fighting chance. The particular weapons spawning at these points however have an element of randomness to them, so in order to survive a Scavenger round you will have to explore as much of the map as possible. Sticking together as a team means you might be able to keep enemies from claiming these few and valuable weapons that can turn the tide of a round.

In addition to the new setting and game mode, players will be able to wield the much-anticipated crossbow and pilot some heavily modified vehicles. Check out the full preview at http://blogs.battlefield.com/ and take a look at the trailer embedded above.

Eurogamer is reporting that Mass Effect 3's next single player DLC will be entitled Omega and is set to be the largest, most expansive and costly DLC for the game to date.

According to the report, Mass Effect 3: Omega will be twice as large as any previous offering for the game. The DLC will see players teaming up with Aria T'loak, one time Asari ruler of Space Station Omega. Aria needs to take back control of the space station from Cerberus troops.

The story in Omega actually follows the Mass Effect 3: Invasion comic book series. In those books, General Petrovsky moved in on Omega and captured the space station for the Illusive Man. General Petrovsky will be returning in Mass Effect 3: Omega, as confirmed by Mass Effect 3 Producer Mike Gamble confirmed to Eurogamer.

Price-wise, the Omega DLC will be available for $14.99 (or 1200 MSP), making it the most expensive digital offering for Mass Effect since the Cerberus Network Pass from Mass Effect 2 which also retailed at 1200 MSP.

Earlier this year, DICE put out a request to the community to send in their greatest Battlefield 3 videos for their 'Only in Battlefield' contest. It's something that DICE has done before and has become one of our favorite community contests.

If you've played Battlefield in the past, you've undoubtedly experienced an 'Only in Battlefield' moment for yourself. A time where something absolutely crazy happened and you just have to shake your head and say, 'Only in Battlefield would that have just happened.'

With DICE's contest, we've been seeing a massive amount of Only in Battlefield videos and, earlier this morning, DICE revealed even more of their favorites that didn't make the final cut.

Featured above is 'Everyday I'm Javelin', a brilliant parody of the popular song 'Party Rock Anthem' by LMFAO. Of the song, DICE writes:

Out of all 1,200 videos we received, “Everyday I’m Javelin” by German team “Die Geilen Uschis” is probably the one that made us laugh the most. This amazing 10 minute epic features both slapstick and beautifully co-ordinated scenes where Engineers fire their Javelins simultaneously at enemy aircraft with hilarious results. Group jumping off the roof of exploding building is another specialty from this group that worked for months to put this video together.

They actually submitted for our first Only in Battlefield contest a long time ago, and they’ve always been one of our favorites here in the DICE office.

  • Battlefield 3 Scheduled to Receive Server Update Tomorrow

DICE is set to release a server update tomorrow for Battlefield 3 on all platforms, including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The update is set to go live around noon Pacific time on PC, but it may take longer to get out to console players as it has to go through a middleman to reach your console. The update will bring tweaks to the Gunship in Armored Kill as well as the option to remove the minimap in Hardcore map.

At the forefront of this patch is tweaks to the Armored Kill Gunship. The vehicle is being tweaked in both Conquest and Rush mode:

Gunship balance tweak in Rush mode -
The Armored Kill gunship received major tweaks already in the last server update. We are now further tweaking it based on community feedback. It now only respawns after the attackers have destroyed an M-COM in Rush.

Rationale: The gunship has been a bit overpowered and spawning too fast in Rush, especially on servers running modified vehicle spawn times. This tweak makes the gunship only spawn for the attackers after each crate, except the initial spawn on round start. In effect, this means that after the gunship is destroyed, a new M-COM needs to be destroyed before the gunship can respawn at all.

Gunship balance tweak in Conquest mode -
The gunship will always have a 60 second spawn delay in Conquest no matter the server spawn delay setting.

Rationale: The gunship has been spawning too fast on servers running modified vehicle spawn times, making it hard to regain control of the flag controlling the gunship. This tweak will make the gunship spawn every 60 seconds independent of server settings.
