  • Take a Look at 343 Industries Latest Halo 4 Developer Diary, 'Prelude'

    • By NateRios 8/17/2012 10:16:41 PM
    • Category IconHalo 4
    • 1

Halo 4's latest developer diary isn't what you would expect from 343 Industries, but it's no less interesting for that fact. The video, entitled 'Prelude', takes a very cinematic approach to showing some behind the scenes looks inside the heart of Halo 4 headquarters.

The diary opens with some shots of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, where 343 Industries is located, and then moves inside the building itself. We see developers preparing themselves for the task of creating the next great Halo story, something that can't have been easy to approach.

Bungie Studios was beloved for their work in the iconic Halo series, and they will forever be remembered as pioneers in the first-person shooter genre. In an era where console games just weren't able to stack up to their more-powerful PC counterparts, Bungie Studios and Microsoft came along with something called Halo and a game console known as the Xbox, completely changing the way we looked at console gaming.

Can 343 Industries live up that legacy that came before them?

From the developer diary above, it sure looks like they are trying their level best. The game has looked impressive in screenshots, videos, behind the scenes features and interviews so we have high hopes that 343 Industries will release a worthy entry into Halo canon.

Check out the developer diary above, released during Gamescom 2012.

Matt Higby, Creative Director on PlanetSide 2, recently sat down Krautgaming to discuss PlanetSide 2 at Gamescom 2012 in Cologne, Germany.

The video is embedded above, but non-German-speaking-readers, don't be alarmed when the host begins speaking in German - his actual interview is in English. In the interview, Matt Higby discusses faction glory with a Terran Republic loyalist and how he plans to nerf everything in the Vanu Sovereignty and Terran Republic (just kidding). In all seriousness, the interview is a lot of fun and a must-watch if you're looking forward to PlanetSide 2 - or even for folks who are lucky enough to find themselves in the beta.

  • More Information on Standalone Version of Zombie Survival Game DayZ

    • By NateRios 8/17/2012 8:49:57 PM
    • Category IconDayZ
    • 4

Dean 'Rocket' Hall has taken his show on the road, giving DayZ its first appearance at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. On top of that, Rocket has taken to Reddit to do an AMA (Ask Me Anything), where he revealed a ton of new information on the upcoming standalone version of his popular zombie survival mod, DayZ.

Over on the official DayZ forums, user Max Planck has put together a great recap. Some choice excerpts from the Reddit AMA, include:

Q: If you had the ability to add one thing to the game, no limits, what would it be?

A: Underground construction using red-faction style damage mechanics for clearing out the subterranean world.

Q: How do you feel about the current situation with the hackers. And have BattlEye been co-operative with you? Can we see a step forward in stopping the hackers or is the release our real safety area.

A: hacking is an ongoing issue. ArmA2 was never designed for what DayZ is putting it through. With DayZ standalone we can address this issue without causing ArmA2 problems, so it can remain the product it is. It is something we
will always have to work on, you cannot completely stop hacking.

Keep reading for more from Rocket's Q&A session on Reddit!

The in-game world of DayZ is comprised of a vast array of cities, towns, encampments and outposts, but none with quite the reputation of Elektrozavodsk - or just Elektro, for short.

This is one of the biggest cities in DayZ and features equal opportunities for glory and loot as it does for death and despair. As Elektro is a very popular spawn point, this can become a hotbed of PvP action - meaning that you're going to get killed a lot. In the video above, our very own DayZ guru crooK takes us on a tour of what players can expect in Elektro.

Electronic Arts brought their A-Game to Gamescom this year, that much is apparent. With strong showings from Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Battlefield 3, Dead Space 3, Crysis 3 and even more great games outside of the first-person shooter genre, EA has much to be proud of.

We wanted to make sure that none of the great conferences went under your radar. With the flood of news and media coming out of Cologne, Germany, this is a real risk. Some of what EA had to show off, included:

    • Battlefield 3 Premium Press Conference
    • Crysis 3 Presentation, With Rasmus Hojengaard of Crytek
    • Dead Space 3 Presentation, With Jesse Abney of Visceral Games

Plus, you can check out the Medal of Honor: Warfighter presentation embedded above. Enjoy!

    • 0

Ubisoft was on hand at Gamescom this week, showing off Splinter Cell: Blacklist among other great titles. Taking us through an in-depth, 10-minute walkthrough of a mission in Splinter Cell: Blacklist is Creative Director, Maxime Beland of Ubisoft Montreal.

In Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Sam Fisher is back once again, directly following the events of Splinter Cell: Conviction. Without offering too many spoilers, Sam did not expect himself to be brought back into the fray. As a result, he has made some demands in exchange for his services. Fourth Echelon, the elite group that he is leading, will be his team, his rules and he answers only to the President of the Unites States directly. Only Sam Fisher could make those demands and have them fulfilled.

The walkthrough is a must-see for fans of the Splinter Cell franchise, regardless of how you feel about Sam's new voice. Check it out above!

    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Earlier this week, Gabe Newell visited the set of GameTrailers TV to talk about their upcoming first-person shooter, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as well as show off a brand new CGI teaser trailer for the game.

We're unsure at this time if the teaser trailer is teasing CS:GO, or if it's teasing a full-length CGI trailer. We're really hoping it's the latter, however, because it feels like watching an awesome movie based on CS:GO. Video game movies are always bad, but this one really isn't. Let's get a full-length film going, Valve!

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been in beta for quite some time now, and we've been having a blast with the game during our time play testing. You have never experience balance in a multiplayer game, until you've played a multiplayer game from Valve Software and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is no exception.

For more on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, check out http://store.steampowered.com/. The game will launch on August 21st, so get ready!

Medal of Honor: Warfighter's latest trailer is all about the 'realism' that the game offers - something that, incidentally, it came under fire for just this morning. The new trailer, released at Gamescom, is all about straight forward gameplay - no CGI or cutscenes.

In Medal of Honor: Warfighter, players choose a Fireteam. These include special ops groups from ten different countries, allowing you to show some national pride when you're battling it out online. In the trailer above, we get a brand new look at what to expect when Medal of Honor: Warfighter hits shelves on October 23rd.

If you're not familiar with Defiance, you might want to check it out - particularly if you're a fan of sci-fi game worlds. The game merges the popular worlds of sci-fi television with MMOFPS gaming in a brand new way.

Defiance is both an MMOFPS and an upcoming science fiction program on SyFy channel. While we're excited for both mediums, it's the first-person shooter that really gets us interested in Trion Worlds' upcoming project. That's why we were excited to see some brand new screenshots of the game, released just this morning for Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

Hammerpoint Interactive have released some brand new screenshots on the upcoming zombie mmo The War Z, due out later this year.

The War Z is, of course, making waves for its similarity to Day Z, but we're looking forward to the game on its own merit nonetheless. With a list of features that reads like something out a George Romero fantasy, The War Z is shaping up to look great. The screenshots released during Gamescom show off a very unsettling beauty in the game. The world is a horrible, desolate place in The War Z and yet we can't help but be impressed at how great some of these environments and character shots look.

Check them out for yourself in the gallery below, let us know what you think of The War Z! For more on the game, make sure to drop by http://www.warzwiki.com/!

Naughty Dog has gone Gamescom-mad, releasing multiple videos for their upcoming third-person action adventure game, The Last of Us. With all of this great content out there, we wanted to compile it in one easy to find place so that nothing slips under your radar.

The Last of Us is one of our most-anticipated games, being huge fans of what Naughty Dog was able to do with the Uncharted franchise. We regularly find ourselves going back to replay sections of Uncharted 3 and checking up on the latest multiplayer updates, as well. With The Last of Us, we think Naughty Dog is ready to blow us away again and we've been impressed every time we see something new from them on The Last of Us.

In regards to Gamescom, Naughty Dog has released a slew of assets, including:

    • Brand new trailer for the game, exclusive available for Gamescom
    • The Last of Us - Cinematic Process Video
    • Director's Video Blog - Gamescom Presentation Video
    • Brand new batch of screenshots (available below, as well)

  • Crytek Shows Off Brand New Crysis 3 Screens at Gamescom

    • By NateRios 8/15/2012 11:42:22 PM
    • Category IconCrysis 3
    • 0

Crytek has shown up in force in Cologne, Germany for Gamescom 2012, bringing Prophet and Crysis 3 in tow. The game looks beautiful as you have likely come to expect from Crytek and CryEngine 3, but it's great to see just the same.

In the screenshots below, we get a chance to see a great environmental shot, showing some of the desolate beauty that Crytek has mastered over the course of the last two Crysis games. When we spoke with Crytek's Hasit Zala on Crysis 2, he spoke about how the team coined the term 'Catastrophic Beauty' in Crysis 2. This describes the feeling of Crysis 2, where you'll have buildings collapsed in on itself and yet it's oddly beautiful.

In Crysis 3, you get the same feeling but in a slightly different way. The desolate feeling of some of these Crysis 3 screenshots is almost depressing, but you can't help but be awed by how gorgeous an overgrown New York City can actually be.

We also get a good glimpse at some CELL soldiers in the screenshots, so give them a look below!

  • ZombiU Still Looks Just As Great in Gamescom Trailer

We were thoroughly impressed by Ubisoft's upcoming WiiU-exclusive first-person shooter, ZombiU, at E3 and have found ourselves no less impressed with the game at Gamescom.

ZombiU will shine because of the clever and engaging ways that Ubisoft is putting the WiiU peripherals and capabilities to use, but as a standalone game - peripherals aside - it looks awesome. In the trailer above, we get a good look at just the core game, without highlighting the use of WiiU peripherals, including the coveted WiiPad.

The trailer shows off some new weapons, new environments and shows us that zombies come in all shapes and sizes.

  • ArmA III Shines in These Gamescom Screenshots

    • By NateRios 8/15/2012 9:39:55 PM
    • Category IconArma 3
    • 0

The world of ArmA III is exciting for multiple reasons. To begin with, the game looks gorgeous and introduces the brand new game engine Real Virtuality 4.

The game engine, alone, is enough to get us incredibly excited to play Bohmemia Interactive's gorgeous military simulator. Thanks to the aforementioned game engine, ArmA III features a massive map that takes place on two Greek islands; Stratis and Limnos. Set in the mid 2030's, ArmA III redefines what we've come to expect from military simulators and its no surprise that Bohemia Interactive would be the ones to redefine a genre that they might as well have built from the ground up in previous ArmA games.

The second reason we're excited for ArmA III is that Dean 'Rocket' Hall, creator of the massively popular Zombie MMO DayZ (a mod for ArmA II), has promised that DayZ will be updated for ArmA III when the latter is finally released. DayZ, in the sprawling Real Virtuality 4 engine, is about as exciting as it gets for the zombie survival genre.

  • Battlefield 3: Premium Edition Announced, Launching in September

    • By NateRios 8/15/2012 8:43:09 PM
    • Category IconBattlefield 3
    • 0

DICE is on hand at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany and has announced a brand new version of their popular first-person shooter, Battlefield 3.

The Battlefield 3: Premium Edition is the complete Battlefield 3 experience, bringing the core Battlefield 3 experience as well as the five DLC expansion packs and an exclusive Head Start multiplayer Kit that automatically unlocks 15 different weapons, gadgets and vehicle upgrades.

This is the go-to version of Battlefield 3 for players who haven't yet given the game a shot. If you have played Battlefield 3, you're probably going to want to give this one a miss or just pick up a Premium subscription on the side.

The Premium Edition of Battlefield 3, as you may have guessed, comes with a subscription to EA's Premium service for the Battlefield franchise. Battlefield 3: Premium Edition launches in North America on September 11 and in Europe on September 13, for around $69.99.

Purchasing all of the DLC separately would ultimately run you more than $100, so - in that regard - it's a bargain.
