  • Update: Nexuiz DLC Delayed Due to Level Editor Security Issues

Update, 7/9/2012 9:06AM PT: Illfonic reached out to us to correct some points in this story. It was previously believed that the security issues were with Crytek and CryEngine3 but Illfonic has informed us that the security issues are with a different 3rd party source, and not Crytek at all. The issue is simply getting the level editor to work properly in the game, and Illfonic has informed us that the term 'security measures' makes it sound a lot more threatening than it really is.

The original article can be found below.

Sad news today from the Illfonic camp. The upcoming Duel DLC for Nexuiz has been delayed indefinitely due to some security issues with CryEngine 3.

This isn't to say that Illfonic and THQ aren't working as hard as possible to get the Duel DLC released, but the fix needs to come from Crytek and Illfonic can't speak for them as to when it will be ready. The main problem seems to be a security issue that relates to the Nexuiz Level Editor, which would have allowed players to create custom maps and share them via Steam Workshop.

In the meantime, however, Illfonic wants to get as many of the bug fixes and game enhancements released as possible so they have begun prepping a new patch for the game which will bring dramatic performance updates as well as some other features.

  • Nexuiz News Update: Patch Notes, DLC and Steam Workshop Support Announced

THQ and Illfonic are releasing both free and paid updates to their arena shooter Nexuiz next week, bringing both much needed bugfixes as well as some really exciting DLC.

First up, Nexuiz is getting a much anticipated patch that aims to fix a ton of bugs including latency issues and player prediction. The patch also introduces more options for dynamic mutators, crosshairs, spectator cameras, LAN support, dedicated servers and, perhaps our most anticipated feature, Steam Workshop support.

With Steam Workshop support, the modding community will be able to design maps for Nexuiz. These maps will be available to download right from Steam via Steam Workshop in the same way that mods for a game like Skyrim are available currently. Players will be able to design maps for play in Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and the new Duel mode. Speaking of Duel Mode...

  • Hands On With The Latest Nexuiz Patch and Community Maps

We've been having a blast with THQ's arena shooter Nexuiz on Steam and with the latest patch, a pretty nasty bug has been squashed.

The latest patch killed a game-crashing bug that made playing a real headache at times. There are still bugs that need sorting out, but Illfonic and THQ have been goot at supporting the game so far, and we're confident that they'll continue working to provide the smoothest Nexuiz experience possible.

On top of the bug fixes, Illfonic is currently running a community map contest where players can vote for their favorite of three custom 'Blue Room' maps. The maps can be seen in the video above, as well as some insight on the patch that Illfonic deployed.

  • Taking a Closer Look at the Dynamic Mutators of Nexuiz

    • By NateRios 5/16/2012 7:16:11 PM

THQ and Illfonic released their arena shooter Nexuiz on Steam last week, and we've been spending a lot of time with the game.

One of Nexuiz's strongest selling points is the Dynamic Mutators system. Mutators are like powerups that affect the match in different ways, as you can see in the video above. Picking up a Mutator gives you or your team different abilities, or it may simply change something up on the map. Often, a useful Mutator can turn the match around in your favor but be wary, because that works both ways.

Nexuiz features over a hundred Mutators, so the possibilities are endless. Never count your team out, because you never know when an awesome Mutator is going to come your way and make the difference between a loss and a win.

  • Hands On With THQ's Arena Shooter Nexuiz

Last week, THQ and Illfonic released their arena shooter Nexuiz on Steam. The game had previously been available on Xbox 360, but with the Steam release, the game has become available to a much broader audience.

Today, we bring you a quick overview of what THQ and Illfonic have to offer with Nexuiz. The game is a classic Arena Shooter with some really fun power ups and weapons that make it more than worth the $9.99 price tag. Nexuiz's power ups come in the form of Dynamic Mutators which you can learn more about in the video above. Dynamic Mutators essentially change up the flow of the match using things like jetpacks or altered gravity. There has been more than one match where a Mutator ended up evening out a one sided match.

  • THQ's Arena Shooter Nexuiz Now Available on Steam

Earlier this year, Nexuiz launched on XBox Live Arcade, but for folks who may have missed it on that console, THQ has just released the game on Steam.

Arena shooters were kind of meant to be played on PC, although we did have a blast on the XBox 360 version of the game, don't get us wrong. In Nexuiz, players are spawned into a fast-paced, intense matchup where all weapons are pickups and various buffs known as Dynamic Mutators, which really change the experience in every match. Dynamic Mutators are powerups that change the way the match is progressing with things like showing your targets indicator at all times, spawning jetpacks, lowering the gravity in the Arena and more.

On top of the Mutators, Nexuiz boasts a really fun arsenal of weapons which are all pickups, spread throughout the map.

We'll be doing some hands-on videos with Nexuiz in the coming days, so if you're not quite ready to plunk down the required $9.99, stay tuned for that over on our YouTube page!
