  • Starhawk Patch 1.4 Introduces 3 New Game Modes & 5 New Maps

    • By NateRios 9/21/2012 9:01:10 PM

Starhawk developers Lightbox Interactive has released Patch 1.4 for their PlayStation-exclusive shooter, bringing a wealth of new content to the game completely for free.

Something that Lightbox has been passionate about even before Starhawk launched back in May of this year is the quest for free DLC. Every other publisher is releasing DLC by the boatload, but they are also charging upwards of $9.99 per content drop. To the avid gamer, that can result in $60 for the game plus an additional $40 or more depending on the amount of DLC that the publisher revealed.

To Lightbox Interactive, this isn't a business model that they can get behind. Instead, they are releasing all of their content free of charge. The latest example of this is Patch 1.4 for Starhawk, which introduces a ton of content for absolutely zero dollars.

Patch 1.4 includes five full multiplayer maps and three completely new game modes. This same content would run you around $15 if it was a different franchise. You know the one. Comes out in November. Everyone's going to buy it. Going to break all the sales records. You guessed it, The Hip Hop Dance Experience.

Fire up your copy of Starhawk on PlayStation 3 to download Patch 1.4 and start playing the brand new content.

Lightbox Interactive has worked on Starhawk for years, so to finally ship the game and put it in the hands of the players that you've been striving to produce an incredible gaming experience for...that has to be the pinnacle of satisfaction for a passionate studio like Lightbox. The guys at Lightbox take us behind the scenes on the launch of Starhawk in the video above, and it's a fun little video.

Starhawk is available on PlayStation 3 right now. We've been playing the game for a couple weeks and it's been a lot of fun. Lightbox has crafted some very innovative and unique game mechanics in Starhawk and we think fans of third-person shooters aren't going to be disappointed with this one.

  • Lightbox Interactive Announces All Map Packs for Starhawk Will Be Free

Downloadable content is one of the biggest hot button issues in this industry, with both passionate proponents of additional paid content and folks who believe it should all ship with the game for one flat price.

Whichever side of the tracks you find yourself on, we can all agree that "free" is a really good price for most things. Lightbox Interactive has announced that every map pack for their just-released third-person shooter Starhawk will be available free of charge as part of their post-launch support plans.

Dylan Jobe, President at Lightbox, made the announcement over ath the official PlayStation blog, saying...

...this is the announcement that you guys probably were *NOT* expecting…there was a lot of discussion here at LightBox Interactive and Sony Santa Monica on how best to support the community and keep our player base all together as one cohesive group.

We really didn’t like how in Warhawk when we released a new map pack, it forced these divisions on our players. And after we released three expansions, our player community was pretty fractured. With Starhawk that ends!

We are incredibly excited to announce that all map packs for Starhawk will be free. Yeah, you read that right…FREE. Whenever we release a map pack you won’t have to pay a friggin’ dime!

Check out the official announcement and view the launch trailer here!

  • Lightbox Interactive's Starhawk Hits Shelves, Launch Trailer Released

Lightbox Interactive and Sony Computer Entertainment of America have officially launched their exciting third-person shooter, Starhawk.

Starhawk is innovative in many ways, but probably the most anticipated feature of the sci-fi western is the Build & Battle system. In Starhawk, the Build & Battle system allows you to call down and build structures that will give you the edge in battle. These structures range from sniper nests - giving you a birds eye view of the battle below - to garages, letting you spawn vehicles or even Hawk aerial mechs.

On top of that, Starhawk features a full 23-player competetive multiplayer component as well as an in-depth singleplayer campaign and co-op modes for you and your friends to work side by side.

  • Introducing the Top Ways to Kill in Starhawk

    • By NateRios 5/4/2012 5:38:14 PM

Whether it's the Hawk Snipe, the Pod Kill or the Giant Frickin' Laser Beam, Starhawk features a multitude of ways to decimate your enemies and this video does its level best to highlight as many of those as possible in thirty seconds.

Starhawk incorporates a really exciting Build and Battle system, which allows players to actually build structures in the middle of every match. These structures can range from garages to spawn vehicles to launch pads for your own Hawk unit. With all of these structures, the range of ways you can take opponents down increases dramatically. You have vehicles and Hawk units that you can spawn, you can construct 'giant frickin' laser beams' to blast enemies out of the sky or construct a sniper nest and take your enemies down from a distance.

Check out the video above and be sure to drop by our Starhawk forums to discuss the game! Starhawk hits shelves exclusively on PlayStation 3 this Tuesday, May 8th.

  • How to Craft a Soundtrack with Lightbox Interactive's Starhawk

    • By NateRios 4/28/2012 12:54:57 AM

No game would be the same without a soundtrack behind it. Whether it's the light-hearted, catchy melodies of a Mario game or the breathtaking score from thatgamecompany's Journey; the soundtrack to a game, in many ways, is just as important as the game mechanics itself.

Lightbox Interactive enlisted the services of Composer Christopher Lennertz to write the soundtrack to their upcoming third-person shooter Starhawk. Lennertz, having scored Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and Lightbox Interactive's previous title Warhawk, is no stranger to video game music. In a brand new video released this morning, Lennertz takes us behind the scenes on what is sounding like a gorgeous soundtrack.

  • Get Acquainted With Starhawk's Singleplayer Story in Latest Trailer

    • By NateRios 4/25/2012 6:38:30 PM

Lightbox Interactive is just a couple weeks away from launching their exciting third-person shooter Starhawk, exclusively on PlayStation 3.

We had a chance to spend some time with Starhawk's multiplayer beta and were very impressed with what the game had to offer. The classic third-person shooter mechanics and tactics are all there, but on top of that, Lightbox Interactive has built an innovative structural system that allows players to build structures during each match to help their side win the battle. Structures range from garages to spawn vehicles to walls to repel incoming enemy soldiers.

On the story side of things, players will take up the role of Emmett Graves, a mercenary or soldier for hire. Graves has taken on every contract he's been given with success but this time, things are different. His current assignment is sending him back to his hometown of White Sands, and he is all that stands between the salvation of White Sands and the invading forces of an Outlaw and his War Band.
