  • What Reviewers Aren't Talking About in Metro: Last Light

Metro: Last Light hits shelves tomorrow, May 14th, 2013 and the floodgates on reviews of the game have opened up this morning. As we all get inundated with hands-on pieces for the game, we wanted to take a minute to point out an oddity that we couldn't help but notice.

Before you read this, go ahead and browse a few reviews of Metro: Last Light. Just pick two or three arbitrarily and come back when you're all done.

    Ready?

Now, odds are that you just read about Metro's dark undertones. It's unashamed take on violence and maturity in gaming. The technical prowess that 4A Games has demonstrated in Metro: Last Light. Without question, you read about the fantastic environment of the underground. All of these things are true, but there's one thing that reviewers are shying away from discussing.

Metro: Last Light features a graphic and shocking attempted rape scene.

  • Metro: Last Light Arriving May 14th

    • By NateRios 3/1/2013 5:41:13 PM

The folks working on Metro: Last Light have announced that the game is going to be arriving on May 14th in North America and May 17th for the rest of the world.

This is reassuring news as the fate of the game was somewhat in jeopardy after THQ filed for bankruptcy and subsequently auctioned off all of their IPs and assets to try and cover some of their debt. Metro 2033 was one of the most underrated shooters of the past few years, so Metro: Last Light is definitely a must-play for us and hopefully for you, too.

The game is releasing a little later than scheduled so that the guys at 4A Games can perfect it before releasing it. They said on Facebook that:

The extra time will go towards a final layer of polish, in order to provide fans of mature and atmospheric first-person shooters with the best possible single-player experience we can offer. We are working on details for pre-orders, and hope to have these available soon.

Stay tuned as we get closer to Metro: Last Light's arrival! In the meantime, catch up on the game at our Metro: Last Light hub.

  • THQ Details Metro Last Light Special Edition Bonuses

    • By NateRios 12/14/2012 5:31:14 PM

THQ has released some fresh information on the special edition of their upcoming shooter, Metro Last Light - the sequel to 2010's Metro 2033.

Players who pre-order Metro Last Light now, on  Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC, will automatically be upgraded to the limited edition of the game. This version of the game comes with a handful of digital bonuses, unavailable otherwise, including:

    • Ranger Mode
    • Ranger load-out, featuring:
      • Military grade ammunition that serves as currency in the game, to spend on weapon upgrades and equipment.
      • AKS-74U modified Russian rifle

Additionally, if you pre-order the game on PlayStation Network - on or after December 18th, 2012 - you will receive a free copy of THQ shooter Homefront, a game that we felt went terribly unnoticed despite an engaging singleplayer campaign and a very fun multiplayer experience.

Metro Last Light is shipping in March of 2013 and you can pre-order now at select retailers, including GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy and others.

  • 'Like' THQ On Facebook, Get Metro 2033 For Free

    • By NateRios 12/11/2012 10:25:55 PM

In a brilliant marketing move, THQ is giving players the chance to earn a free copy of their post-apocalyptic shooter, Metro 2033 for simply 'liking' THQ's page on Facebook.

Right now, you may be saying, 'but...giving away games will result in less revenue!" While you are, of course, completely right in that regard, you have to take into account the fact that THQ is nowhere close to being in a place where remnant sales from Metro 2033 are going to lift them out of the tough spot they are currently in. The only way that they are going to rise up will be pushing their games in the right direction in the future, and relying on heavy sales from their 2013 lineup.

Perhaps the pinnacle of which is Metro Last Light, the direct sequel to Metro 2033.

In giving away Metro 2033, THQ is generating some hype for Metro Last Light, a game that they will be relying heavily on in 2013. The lost revenue from Metro 2033 should heavily outweigh the hype, advertising and excitement they will be able to build for folks who haven't paid any attention to Metro Last Light. Metro 2033 speaks for itself in terms of quality and creativity, and it is a game that no self-respecting shooter aficionado should leave unplayed. It may have gone under the radar for many of us, but with this new offer, there is no reason not to take advantage of THQ's hospitality.

Metro Last Light is one of our most-anticipated games of 2013 for a reason, so make sure you visit THQ's Facebook page and get your free copy of Metro 2033 today and prepare for the sequel.

  • Meet The Commander in 4A Games' Metro: Last Light

    • By NateRios 12/6/2012 6:33:40 PM

Like every survivor in the tunnels under Moscow, the Commander has not led an easy life. Their very way of life in the underground makes that impossible, but the Commander has had more than his fair share of difficulties - even in this desolate post-apocalyptic world that 4A Games has crafted in Metro: Last Light.

The Commander comes from a military family and was a career soldier before the bombs began dropping and survivors retreated to their new home, beneath the streets of Moscow. As the bombs began dropping, the Commander chose duty over family and was forced to leave his wife and child on the surface. As the gates closed on the underground tunnels, the Commander was faced with a young mother with a newborn child, pleading to be let inside the safety of the metro.

Taking the baby, the Commander let the gates close on the mother, imagining that her accusing eyes were the same ones that his wife would look at him with were she able to see him.

After the gates had closed, the baby was taken from him and he never learned the identity. Years later, he wonders if each passing face may belong to the boy he saved from certain death. Would he thank him for the gift of life? Or curse him for abandoning his mother to the certain doom of staying on the surface?

The Commander is a stark character, fitting for the desolate world that we've come to discover in Metro: Last Light. Check out the trailer above and visit http://www.enterthemetro.com/ for more information on the game.

The game takes places in the Moscow underground, where civilization has gathered after a massive nuclear disaster on the surface. The tunnels are not necessarily a place of safety, as battles rage for control of various subway stations.

  • Behind the Scenes on Metro: Last Light's Live-Action Trailer

    • By NateRios 6/21/2012 8:56:29 PM

Back in May of this year, THQ released a stirring short-film/live-action trailer for Metro: Last Light, which took people to the miserable Moscow underground.

The live-action trailer was great, and even though it didn't boast any actual gameplay from Metro: Last Light, we weren't complaining because it set the mood for the game so well. THQ is now taking us behind the scenes on production of the Enter the Metro live-action trailer, in a brand new Making Of feature. The film was shot in sub-freezing temperatures in Kyiv, Ukraine, only adding to the dire feeling that the short film portrays.

Check it out above and be sure to drop by our Metro: Last Light hub for continuing coverage of the game, which is set for a 2013 release.

  • THQ Shows Off Pre E3 Screenshots of Metro: Last Light

    • By NateRios 5/29/2012 9:32:47 PM
    • Category IconMetro: Last Light
    • 0

Metro: Last Light is undoubtedly going to be taking some of the spotlight at THQ's E3 presence, but before we make it to June 5th, the publisher is sharing a few new screenshots of the game.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Metro: Last Light takes place in a post-apocalyptic Moscow, Russia in the year 2034. Specifically, Metro: Last Light takes place under the post-apocalyptic ruins of Moscow - in the subway tunnels where humanity has taken refuge. It's not just mutants that you'll be facing off against in the hostile underground, but other survivors as well. The station cities in the Moscow underground are not banding together, but rather are fighting for total control over their subterranean home.

Check out the new screenshots in the gallery below and be sure to check out Metro: Last Light at http://www.enterthemetro.com/.

  • Metro: Last Light's Short Film Available Now, Right Here!

    • By NateRios 5/24/2012 5:14:26 PM
    • Category IconMetro: Last Light
    • 0

Clocking in at just 4 minutes and 26 seconds, Metro: Last Light's short film is indeed rather short. But, thankfully, that doesn't take away from the experience.

Metro: Last Light takes place in the year 2034, one year after the events in Metro 2033, beneath the post-apocalyptic ruins of Moscow, Russia. In the metro tunnels beneath the city, conflict reigns supreme. Mutants stalk the Earth above the tunnels and beneath the broken city. On top of the mutants, however, is perhaps an even more deadly threat; civil war is breaking out as the station cities fight each other for total control.

Metro: Last Light is set to hit shelves next year, so be sure to stay tuned to FPSGeneral.com as we get closer to the launch date!
