Payday: The Heist is one of the most enjoyable co-op shooters we've played in the past couple years so we were thrilled to learn this morning that the game is getting a sequel and it should be out this summer!
Currently in development at Overkill Software, Payday 2 takes everything that made The Heist so enjoyable and expands upon it. From what we've seen so far, Payday 2 seems like a much broader offering. While the first game had a series of heists that players could team up to carry out, the gameplay had a tendency to get stale after a while as there were only a finite amount of missions you could play through.
With Payday 2, that all changes with the CRIMENET system of contracts. Players can take jobs from this 'contract database' of literally dozens of potential missions. Not only are there more missions, but they are also getting a dynamic element to them. For example, some missions will have random or rare events that can occur in the middle of them, causing you to switch up your gameplan on the fly. These events don't happen everytime, though, so you can't exactly strategize for them from the outset.
Players can also now choose from a set of professions, which are basically Payday 2's version of player classes. Each profession (Mastermind, Enforcer, Ghost or Technician) has different weapons and skills available to it.
Payday 2 will be arriving this summer on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and PC as a digital title. No word yet on pricing or specific launch date, but stick with us as we'll be following Payday 2 closely all year!
