  • These Are Our Top 3 Most-Anticipated PlayStation 4 Shooters

    • By NateRios 4/19/2013 6:46:21 PM

There are a good deal of things that we don't know about the PlayStation 4 but from what we do know, this is going to be a beast among consoles. The reveal event for the console promised more power, a better online experience than what PlayStation Network currently offers and the capability for some truly gorgeous games.

But you know us, we're all about shooters. First-person, third-person...it doesn't really make a difference. So, naturally when I heard about the PlayStation 4, I started getting excited for a new breed of console shooters.

There are a few promising shooters coming to the PlayStation 4 that we know of already, but not all games are created equal. Without further ado, here are my Top 3 Most-Anticipated PlayStation 4 Shooters!

Note: this is the first edition of our list, as more games are announced for the upcoming next-gen console, we will release an update to this list. Like any good first edition, this one will be worth hundreds of millions of dollars in the future.

  • Blacklight Retribution Coming to PlayStation 4

    • By NateRios 3/26/2013 8:12:57 PM

Zombie Studios has announced that Blacklight Retribution will be heading to PlayStation 4 when that console launches, presumably later this year. Retribution has previously been a PC-exclusive offering, whereas the first game in the series - Blacklight: Tango Down - was a console-exclusive.

If you haven't played it, Blacklight Retribution is a really fun free to play shooter that steps up what players expect from multiplayer-only F2P games. Whether it's the enjoyable (and occasionally frustrating) Hyper Reality Visor which essentially gives everyone a wallhack built right into the game or the epic Hard Suits that you can pilot to deal death from the comfort of a mech, BlackLight Retribution has been a lot of fun over the last year or so.

Now it's coming to PlayStation 4 and the free to play model is sticking around.

Check out the announcement trailer after the break and stay tuned for more details on the PlayStation 4 - we still don't know when it launches or what the hell it actually looks like.

  • Guerilla Games Reveals Killzone: Shadow Fall, Coming to PlayStation 4

As you might have guessed, the big story today is the PlayStation 4 and FPS General has been taking a look at all of the shooter flavored news that came out of last night's huge event in New York.

One of those shooters that was unveiled came in the form of Killzone: Shadow Fall, a brand new game coming from Guerilla Games. We have long been fans of Killzone so the premise of a brand new game with the updated PlayStation 4 is very exciting to us, indeed. We don't know much about the story just yet as it's still pretty early, but presumably this will be a launch title when the PS4 hits shelves this holiday season.

Here is what we do know about Killzone: Shadow Fall:

Set thirty years after the events of the Killzone trilogy, the world of Killzone Shadow Fall is a very different place. Forced together by circumstance, the two rival factions of the Helghast and the Vektans live side by side in a futuristic city, divided by a vast wall.

Tensions are high, and a war can spark at any moment. In the midst of this all stands a Shadow Marshall, the most special of the special forces, tasked with maintaining the delicate balance.

We can't wait to follow development on Killzone: Shadow Fall and hope you'll join us all year long right here at FPS General! Take a look at the announcement trailer after the break.

  • Bungie's Destiny Officially Coming to PlayStation 4

    • By NateRios 2/21/2013 9:38:58 PM

Last night, Sony officially lifted the lid on the PlayStation 4 and with that announcement came a slew of new titles being revealed. In the case of Bungie's Halo-successor Destiny, we learned that it would not only ship on the PlayStation 3 but the next-generation PlayStation 4 as well.

This news was not entirely unexpected as Destiny is projected to span across multiple titles for the next 10 years. With the PlayStation 3's lifespan gradually coming to an end over the last year, it was inevitable that Destiny would arrive on the PlayStation 4 in some capacity but it's great to hear none the less. At last night's Sony event, Bungie's Jason Jones was on hand to make the announcement.

Jones said that he felt that Destiny and the PlayStation 4 are a great fit together because both the game and the console are always connected and make such good use of that connectivity.

Chances are, Destiny will also be arriving on the next-generation Xbox 360 but we'll have to wait a little bit longer until Microsoft is ready to start talking about that console. In the meantime, check out Destiny at http://www.destinythegame.com/.

  • Watch Dogs Coming to PlayStation 4, Still Looks Incredible

    • By NateRios 2/21/2013 7:54:12 PM

Last night, during the big PlayStation 4 event, Ubisoft announced that Watch Dogs would be arriving on the next-generation console. Given how incredibly good-looking Watch Dogs is, this isn't surprising. To date, all of the footage we've seen so far has been captured from high-end PCs and while the PlayStation 4 is still quite a good distance from high-end PCs, it is definitely a step in the right direction over the current generation of consoles.

Watch Dogs looked just as amazing as it first did last year in last night's open-world gameplay preview. The sheer power that the player character has is amazing, and it seems like the opportunities are absolutely endless as to how you want to handle the situations given to you in the game. In the demo, the player gets his vigilante on by stopping a crime in the middle of the day by using his tools to analyze the risk of a crime happening to a woman on the street.

He then scans a nearby thug and his risk of perpetrating a crime clues him in to what is about to happen. Sure enough, the thug pulls a knife on the woman and our player character springs into action, drawing a weapon on him and forcing him to run for his life. An awesome chase scene ensues and ultimately culminates in our player having to run from the cops in an even more awesome chase scene.

Check out a trailer for Watch Dogs after the break!

  • Details on PlayStation 4 Emerge, New Controller and Powerful Specs

    • By NateRios 1/23/2013 8:57:44 PM

Kotaku has some seemingly reliable information on the upcoming PlayStation 4 (codename Orbis internally at Sony Computer Entertainment). The console, which is expected to be announced at E3 this year, looks pretty powerful in keeping with Sony's tradition for horsepower.

This information comes from official internal documentation, so it should be pretty reliable although clearly subject to change. Here is what we know, in a nutshell:

    • We're still not sure what this thing will be officially titled, whether it's PlayStation 4 or Orbis or something completely unrevealed as of yet.
    • Under the hood, the PlayStation 4 is a beast, featuring the following specs:
      • System Memory: 8GB
      • Video Memory: 2.2 GB
      • CPU: 4x Dual-Core AMD64 "Bulldozer" (so, 8x cores)
      • GPU: AMD R10xx
      • Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 2x Ethernet
      • Drive: Blu-Ray
      • HDD: 160GB
      • Audio Output: HDMI & Optical, 2.0, 5.1 & 7.1 channels
    • On the controller side of things, it looks like both Move and the DualShock controller will continue on in the new generation of PlayStation peripherals. This time, however, there is also a new controller in development for the new console. This new controller will feature many of the PlayStation staples - the trademark face buttons, triggers and dual analog sticks - but with one brand new feature; a capacitive touch pad, like that found on the back of the PlayStation Vita.
    • Multiple users can now be logged in simultaneously on the PlayStation 4, rather than the single-user-login at startup of the PlayStation 3.
    • Sources are varied as to whether the PlayStation 4 will ship in late 2013 or if it will be pushed back to 2014.

Bear in mind that all of this information should be taken with a grain of salt until Sony reveals anything for themselves. While the source seems very reliable, anything can change between now and the official announcement. Read the full report on Kotaku for more information.
