QuakeCon has officially kicked off this morning at the Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas! The event will feature a handful of gaming tournaments, panel discussions, playable versions of Dishonored and DOOM 3 BFG as well as a keynote address from id Software's John Carmack.

“QuakeCon is the culmination of a dedicated group of gamers, ranging from casual to hardcore, who make the trip each year to visit with friends and connect with peers on the largest LAN party in North America,” said Todd Hollenshead, president of id Software in today's press release.  “We couldn’t host this event without such a devoted community behind us, including hundreds of volunteers and event sponsors who are passionate about making QuakeCon 2012 the most rewarding yet.”

The event is set to last for four days and features discussions from the likes of Todd Hollenshead, Pete Hines, Todd Howard, Chet Faliszek and many more industry veterans. As mentioned before, QuakeCon attendees are able to play an early version of Bethesda Softworks' upcoming first-person stealth game, Dishonored.

Bethesda Softworks has revealed the full panel lineup from QuakeCon 2012, due to get started next Thursday, August 2nd.

As per usual, John Carmack will be delivering the keynote address at QuakeCon. Carmack, if you're not familiar with him, is a co-founder at id Software and responsible for such games as DOOM and Quake, itself. Carmack's keynote addresses are usually briliant and a ton of fun to watch, so we're definitely looking forward to that.

The rest of the lineup includes the likes of Raphael Colantonio, Chet Faliszek, Todd Howard, Adam Sessler, Michael Pachter, Geoff Keighley and so many more veteran developers, designers and industry icons. The full panel can be found after the break, just click 'Keep Reading' to check it out.

In addition to all of the fascinating panel discussions, QuakeCon plays host to a ton of sponsored tournaments and will be the first time we'll be able to see Dishonored in action!

QuakeCon is set to get underway in August and Bethesda Softworks has announced that they will open pre-registration for the event on April 25th - tomorrow, as of the time of this story.

As you may be aware, QuakeCon is the largest LAN event in North America, and largest free LAN gaming event in the world. Every year, thousands of gamers flock to QuakeCon to compete in tournaments and attend panels discussing some of their favorite id Software games, as well as upcoming id Software and Bethesda Softworks games. Quake, of course, is at the heart of the event but this year, we're also hoping for information on Bethesda's upcoming stealth game Dishonored and possibly Prey 2, although it has been delayed so that remains to be seen.

Pre-registering for QuakeCon 2012 guarantees you a spot at the annual Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) event, as well as some exclusive bonus packages depending on which package you choose.
