505 Games and Rebellion have released a brand new expansion pack for Sniper Elite V2, which brings multiplayer support to the console versions of the game. Previously, competitive multiplayer was only available on the PC version of Sniper Elite V2.

Says Rebellion CEO, Jason Kingsley:

“Rebellion is very excited to release this multiplayer support for console. We have always believed in supporting and building our games’ communities as best we can.  This is in part to say thank you to dedicated gamers for buying our games, and also to say keep an eye out for our next big Sniper Elite announcement”.

With the Multiplayer Expansion DLC, 505 Games is delivering four new game modes across six diverse maps. The game modes include deathmatch, team deathmatch, distance king and team distance king. All of these game modes can be played on the six multiplayer maps:

• Mountain Pass
• Quarry
• Graves
• OpernPlatz
• Church
• Kreuzberg

In addition to the Multiplayer Expansion DLC, there is also a small weapons pack that is going live that includes a handful of new weapons to use in the game. The Multiplayer Expansion DLC is available now for free, so fire up Sniper Elite V2 on your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and get started in competitive multiplayer!

Sniper Elite V2 has been out for about a month now, and with the announcement that the first DLC add-on will be released on June 5th, Rebellion is taking us behind the scope on Sniper Elite V2 development.

The original Sniper Elite was a fan favorite, so producing a sequel to that game can be a risky endeavor. Rebellion already had a built in fanbase, but those players had certain expectations. Juggling the meeting of those expectations alongside innovating the franchise and making it more accessible was the task that Rebellion faced when discussing Sniper Elite V2.

When Sniper Elite V2 launched earlier this month, players who pre-ordered the game were given a code to download the Assassinate the Fuhrer DLC mission as a pre-order bonus

Rebellion and 505 Games have announced that this once-exclusive DLC offering will be made available to all players on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on June 5th and 6th respectively. As for the mission itself, things are pretty straightforward. You play as a sniper, sent to assassinate the Fuhrer himself; Adolf Hitler. In the mission, things are pretty tight, and the window of opportunity to take Hitler out and put a halt to all of the chaos that he'll cause is narrow - you'll only get one shot to change history, so make it count!

Assassinate the Fuhrer will be available for 800 MSP on Xbox Live and about $12.00 on PlayStation Network.

505 Games and Rebellion have been enjoying critical and commercial success with their latest game, Sniper Elite V2, over the past few weeks post-launch.

The team at Rebellion posted an update over on the official Steam forums, announcing that they will be aggressively supporting the PC community now that the game has officially shipped on all platforms. All too often, it seems, the PC community gets left in the dust as publishers and developers lean towards console gaming and we always love to see studios that value the PC community.

Rebellion has promised that Sniper Elite V2 will see free downloadable content post-launch, including maps for the multiplayer component of the game. The studio is self-funded and independent, so before working on DLC, the team had to work around the clock to make sure that the base game in Sniper Elite V2 would satisfy the die-hard Sniper Elite fans of the world.

Now that the game has shipped, of course, it's open season for Rebellion...

We've had a chance to spend some time with 505 Games' demo of Sniper Elite V2, which launched this past week and wanted to share some footage and insight on what we've experience.

Rebellion Developments blew us all away back in 2005 with it's brutally authentic sniping simulation and tactical gameplay in Sniper Elite. Well, they're back in a major way with Sniper Elite V2. The ame touts an incredibly immersive experience, where you find yourself totally locked in to your current objective, wondering where the next enemy will appear or whether the coast is as clear as it first appears through your binoculars.

Leave the run 'n' gun mentality at the door, because Sniper Elite V2 requires a sharp wit and intelligent tactics. We played on Sniper Elite mode, the highest difficulty level, and had to promptly switch back down to Marksman, the next level down until we built our skills up. The physics and ballistics engine that powers the game is impressive. Gravity, wind, elevation, heart rate and more all play into each shot that you take.
